SERATO VS TRAKTOR VS TORQ
until one of those products actually offers a high quality digital output with 0 latency (SPDIF)
what is the point? If you can mix, you should spin cdj or vinyl
cdj out digital to a pioneer 800 in digital MURDERS all those options, interms of sound quality, and fidelity being preserved and not lost on the way to a pa system
here is how many conversions you have with any of those 3 options
laptop/hd ( da ad da ) 800
here is how many you have when you cdj digital out to an 800 digital in
(Digital to Digital - Digital to Analog ) 1 da conversion
oh yeah vinyl murders cd' s
ps i just gave away huge (but basic production secrets)
ppss I heard rumors of new versions with digital outs
1st company to do digital outs right will win
imagine a high quality output analog or digital ( for options) with the capability to be reclocked ("DROOLS!!!!")

i must have bad ears becuase the latency really isnt that bad for my point of view...mundy wrote:until one of those products actually offers a high quality digital output with 0 latency (SPDIF)

lol and cdjs didint really come into the question. i do like them and enjoy mixing on the but its just not the same, but im not willing to buy vinyl so at the end of the day im happy to use a programe that TONS of djs are using in clubs and that still sounds sick!
would love to have something to remortage so i could but denon s5000's though-

I was thinking far down the road (i.e. in 1.5-2 years lol) I'd get into CDJ.mundy wrote:until one of those products actually offers a high quality digital output with 0 latency (SPDIF)

thing is, I use Ableton to make music...so I figure I can learn the live aspect well enough and quick enough.
Actually Torq has less, A/B in A/B out, that is it. The multi-core cable can be purcashes separately and be used with all of the brands. I never got it because I don't see the advantage. Unless the club has one and everyone that plays that night has one you still have to connect and disconnect everything before and after your set.shambandito wrote:?? I would still say that serato and traktor are pretty much on the same level.. all goes down to personal preference really.. i would check out the key features of each system and then choose what suits you best.

no dont have bad ears .. there latency is non factor for the three systems mentioned
that was not the point
I was trying to convey that in the future when a digital out is offered .. I hope it is latency free
the consecutive ad da ad da ad all that back and forth leads to a percieved fuzziness...
the transient response, the deep bass, and the smoothness of the high frequencies are hurt the most by the Ad da back and forth
durp...
We use the Pioneer set up with digital connections at our weekly sometimes. I don't notice any improvement on the sound tbh and I do have trained ears. Club systems are designed to be loud not to please audiophiles.mundy wrote:until one of those products actually offers a high quality digital output with 0 latency (SPDIF)

I do sound professionally (I dj for fun ...)
I guess you could say that I am an audiophile
I care ... it starts with caring about the music
FYI music from place to place on rigs small to large can sound good
there is a difference
some can tell
some cant
ask around, some can ... trust me
(ps I love that I got everyone so riled up
I am off to denver co usa for rock the bells festival ( I am the touring festival mainstage Front of house engineer... I use my position to test both my mixdowns and others on giant 100,000 watt plus REVEALING, multimillion dollar, sometimes audiophile systems) ( i also use my position to push run on sentences in the mainstream .. .lol)
I typically have the priveledge to work on great club systems too ie eaw, funktion 1, turbo, jbl vertec/vrx etc etc
I am spoiled
here is my website it is not up yet but enjoy the graphic lol ....
)
I will be back in a week to see how everyone argues about this one ENJOY
and I look forward to reading about how some cant hear the difference

you still have 4 sets of phonos going into the mixer with Traktor Scratch Pro, with Serato SL3 you only have 2 sets of phonos going into your mixer. = Speedyer, by a 20 secs or so marginshambandito wrote:?? i think your thinking of the old SL1 which had similar cabling to Traktor.

CDJ djing isnt fun and intuitive like vinyl controllers are.
Not everything comes out on a vinyl release.

I started with torq, its pretty decent id say. The effects control is interesting (you can sample at whatever dry/wet mix you want) and it keeps your playlists so you can look back on your tracks, but I know its not as good as Traktor or Serato in terms of sound quality and reliability and since I simply cant stand seratos layout I plan on getting traktor in the future
i'm a serato user
its got problems but so do traktor and torq in my experience using them.
that being said, i'll remain a serato user.

i have many problems with serato so i am mostly using cds now.
i have one problem that no one has heard of or can help me with...
the 5 or 6 times i have tried to use serato with cdjs (not by choice) the cdjs wont rewind back at all. so in vinyl mode i play a track, try to grab it and pull back to cue and it wont go backwards. kind of moves forward just a little bit at a time.
i've tried different boxes, cdjs, serato cds. then soon as i use a different computer i'm fine so it must be my macbook pro...
but has anyone heard of this???
i now either jsut bring out cds or i bring them along with my laptop and serato just incase.
so from my experience serato is not reliable. =(

I've never played in a club or radio station with Torq or Traktor set up as standard.
I've played in at least 10 clubs with serato rigged in 24/7 and also 2 radio stations.
If you're gonna get used to one, you may aswell get with whats becoming the industry standard - its like learning to mix on citronic belt drives when every club in the world uses Technics.

I don't play all over the world like you do but I have yet to play in a club with Serato already set up. There is def no club like that in my town. But if that is the way it going to be fine, I can buy a set of Serato vinyls. I don't really need to get used to a system. I played on Serato cold once and did just fine with it. TBH I don't see Serato becoming standard in the way that Techs are or even CDJ's. It is looking more and more like straight laptop djing is the future.Plastician wrote:I've never played in a club or radio station with Torq or Traktor set up as standard.

I have torq, its great if you use it with a midi controller, it sucks with time coded vinyl, haven't tried it with CDs...
you need to ensure all of your tracks have a constant BPM to use it with midi though... otherwise the waveforms aren't right..
Have moved onto CDs/Vinyl from it (I learnt to mix in a back to front way, digital first, then vinyl, then CDs)..
If you have the money serato is the best.
Serato is pretty much standard here (NZ) probably because its made here... but a fair few of the local clubs/radio stations have serato set up or a rane mixer..
