crazy isnt it. they dont have the guy standing out on northumberland st anymore either. everythings changing. i remember when it was down next to all the pawn shops near the odeon, i used to buy hip-hop from them. early days. apparently its new ownership, i think now its the quite young nice brer who works downstairs (might be very wrong though)

its actually a completely sick record store, it tests some of the best down south imo. mainly cos there are enough ageing djs up here selling off their collections of amazing mid-90s dance for peanuts. but they also stock an excellent range of new releases

This was posted over on Newcastlebeats.com all about the change-over back in July:

"Yes folks, as of today (Saturday 1st July 2006), STEEL WHEELS has been bought out by Flabski & Donninator, and has been renamed BEATDOWN RECORDS. Two Thumbs Up Slayer Domo Slayer

We will continue to supply the bestest tunes in the toon, from Drum 'n' Bass and Hip Hop, to Punk, Metal and Indie, plus all points inbetween. (nee Monkey though! Wink )

All Newcastle Beats members will get 10% discount on all new items - just let us know your username.

So you've no excuse not to actually buy records in the toon. It's probably scientific fact that buying tunes off of the net gives you the clap anyways. This doesn't apply to our upcoming website of course.

...And yes, we will be having a party / event, in a few weeks, nearer to our official relaunch!

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT RECORD SHOP"

Can you trust two people called Flabski & Donninator to sell you records?

And why don't they stock Monkey? :o lol

Isn't beatdown records some hardcore label anyway - is there any connection?

LOL they actually did get in a massive crate of monkey, and it flew off the shelves! there was this quite serious looking studentish-type brer in there just rinsing through a massive pile of it. weird. but fair play, he probably thought i looked weird listening to dubstep and garage house in a suit

flabski is a dan, and if donninator is who i think he is then he is also. agreed, questionable names, but who am i to speak?! brave move to buy it out, but i rate it. and it means that that mean old man who used to work upstairs no longer bores out the side of my fuckin head everytime i go in and listen to tunes! i used to hate that guy, every time i went in he'd give me the look that said 'you horrible little child get your sticky fingers off my precious vinyl because i know you wont buy anything' then he'd forget everytime that i'd buy loads everytime. good riddance. sorry. did anyone else feel that way about him?

dont believe there is any connection to the hardcore label
