Shambhala this year was REALLY GOOD.
still radiating.
excision's set was big. he dropped into some crazy 4 to the floor hardstyle for a bit as well if i remember correctly.
Canadian dubstep is LARGE. if you don't know...now ya know, buddy/guy/friend.
honestly though...
for me, it was all about N-Type with Benga and Juakali on the mic at 4am. 100,000 watts of punishing PK sound in the Village was simply the most incredibly musical experience of my entire life. never have gotten a chance to see N-Type before and I'm still speechless. man is an absolute beast, was great to hear a lot of plates that all of us in North America don't necessarily hear every other weekend. 'Skittles!', Lightas in the air during 'When I Look At You', the N-type 'Cockney Thug' VIP, Jakes- 'Riddim', Coki- 'Burnin'.
'N-Type the dinosaur!! N-Type the tyranosaurus rex! N-Type the sasquatch!!!!' - Juakali
Benga was bare jokes on the mic too.
other notable highlights:
Benga skanking to Craze's set in the Fractal Forest, and then subsequently Craze down at Benga's beach sunrise set absolutely mashed pulling back tunes left and right.
Max Ulis' 7am set. 'I Don't Like You' Was also awesome to hear him in the Village before Benga's set playing a huge selection of originals, man is sitting on a TON tunes. don't sleep on the Lighta! sound. also really impressed by Daega as well.
Ewun & Spor. Spor's set was absolutely sinister and I think he walked away with his mind blown equally as much as the audience.
Jack Beats was unreal.
and Deekline is a G.
there are times when it's really easy to get jealous of being thousands of miles from all of the awesome festivals and events in Europe going on all the time...and then you get back to Shambhala and realize how blessed you are to be anywhere remotely near that place.
'a heavy bassline is my kind of silence' - dizzee rascal.
thank you to EVERYONE that was a part of this year's festival. The staff, the volunteers, the performers, the audience...there is a lot of appreciation for what you all do to make this event possible and i'm forever grateful for the impact that it's had on me the past two years. catch you all back on the farm.
PS. pK soound in the Forest, the Living Room AND the Village this year...
hold tight for some pics.
