I'm running it on my laptop. Works fine with Cubase 5 64-bit and the E-MU 0404. Haven't had any problems.

Im running it with Reason 4.0, Oxygen v8 and a Korg PadKontrol, COULDNT BE HAPPIER!!!

Windows 7 kicks arse all day everyday.

I'm having a few issues with Ableton 8.

2ghz Dual core AMD
2056Mb Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8600
Korg NanoKontrol - Carillion Midi Keyboard

1. at first it was quite slow. then i used the vista tutorials for speeding it up for audio, and it works a lot faster now. most of the vista audio tweaks we're the same for win 7.

2. can't record stereo mix (for sampling films). although i can if i remove my soundcard and use the onboard sound card. (you have to enable hidden devices in the mixer.) there are still no proper drivers for my soundcard so when there are it might fix it.

3. quite often the vst i am working on via ableton just dissappears while i am tweaking knobs and faders etc. have to re-open the vst.

generally it's good tho. just takes a while to iron out sound issues, though they we're mainly caused by soundcard driver issues. after i removed the driver and used the one provided by windows 7 cd everything works fine. looks the same as xp once you get rid of the fancy window effects anyway. might as well get used to it anyways.

create one user account for music, and a different one for internet and general activity so you can have dedicated settings for music. If you only have one computer available.

i just got Windows 7 Professional courtesy of the MSDNA yesterday and proceeded to install it on my primary machine.

Windows 7 didn't have too many bugs when the RC was issued to us a few months ago and the few bugs that remained have been taken care of with the release of Pro.

After beating the hell out of 7 all night, i gotta tell ya, this OS is what we have all been waiting for!!

You can install any program ever created on this thing and installing drivers has almost become a thing of the past (didn't see my 1010LT but the XP drivers work perfectly). 7 also recognized all 8gb of ram i have!

For those with Ableton issues, i don't see any here as i installed and used my version 8 with no issues (legal copy).

it looks like MS finally did something right!!!

if anyone has questions on 7 Pro, hit me up!

hey, who here built there own PC? or did you just upgrade the one you had? is it better to build one from scratch or just add what you would have built to what you already got?

and I'm talking to PC USERS here....no interest in Macs whatsoever...none of this "Macs are superior" nonsense

Say again, the emu's are working in 7? Flawlessly?

Yep. Just grab the latest driver for it from the E-MU site and follow the original installation instructions, it works 100% with Windows 7.

ok I admit I'm not that computer savy. What's the 64 bit and 32 bit business? is 32 like, the average person who buys computers will have this, and 64 is something more serious?

just a reminder to all. The 32 bit version of 7 can only handle 4gb of ram. The 64 bit version can handle something insane like 100GB!!!

Yes... But not all plugins and daws are 64 bit versions. So some stuff might not work... Don't feel I need the extra ram atm anyway.

Anybody got experience with the 64bit & compatibility? Now that I would like to know...

Windows 7 is a massive improvement over both XP and Vista. I advise anyone who uses Windows to upgrade to it. I tested it from early beta right up until it's release build and it's been solid the entire way. It's faster, much more secure, much less annoying (that UAC shit is like a beaten wife now), and did i say it's faster?

As for 64bit, all the builds I tested were actually a lot better than the 32bit ones. All my programs etc. worked, save for Punkbuster because the people who make it are stnuc.

Some pros-cons for you:

Pros
Much much faster, even on old systems
Much more secure
The new start bar is much better (has a touch of the OSX dock)
Explorer is much better (libraries are really good for organising samples that are all over the place for instance)
No upgrades needed to use it

Cons
Price is still way too much for the average user

By the way, to all the Mac users I really really strongly advise you jump on the Snow Leopard discount if you own Leopard. The speed increase is unbelievable when using memory hungry stuff like Logic/Reason.

Just installed windows 7 and must admit I really like the updates.

I specifcally like how customisable everything is. I customised the task bar to function like the XP one.

I'm going to follow one of the custom windows button tutorials and make myself a custom windows button too.

The way the windows open and dock is really cool too.

Installing was really easy and a lot quicker than the XP install used to be.

I've also had no problems with software misfunctioning so far.

Overall, it is all the little things that make 7 better than previous versions. Windows 7 is highly recommended to anyone I say!
