theres a few bits of free stuff

your best looking @ demos

learn cubase or logic its what the 'pros' use

but if you want something cheap and easy check either reason or fruity loops

;0)

there's loads of free tutorials on the net

you might need a few plugins too like additional synths / fx but the basic plugins should suffice until you understand how they work ..... then move onto more complex stuff

fl pwns reason ner ner ne ner ner :)

i use fl btw.

reason's good for some shizzle (using its bank of sounds and synths + its all in one prog)

and fl's good for other shizzle (fl is good for samples and drum programming + additional plugins n fx)

*logic and cubase are good for both but take longer to learn and are more fidderly

NB.

Is Reaper really free though...don't you eventually have to pay. It could be a"please donate *sniff sniff* please...I beg you" software, but I'm almost positive you have to pay after a while.

Off the top off the dome I can think of Darkwave Studio, which is free. I never used it...but it's free...

and never mind all this "the pros" talk. you'll be surprised which producers use what. just try demos...if you find a particular one intuitive, buy it. but if you really want free, dark wave is one....kristal is another (i'm just pulling names off of random searches online)

How can I resist a thread like this lol

Erm, Reaper is offered as evaluationware for 30 days, after which, the honest/employed amongst us are meant to buy it. The great thing about Reaper is that it remains fully functional past the intial 30 day evaluation period, even if one doesn't pay for it.

The first time Reaper is opened every day after the initial 30 day 'evaluation period', it displays a reminder box which remains for a fraction longer evey day before it can be clicked away. I've been 'evaluating' Reaper for 675 days so far, and it still works like a dream..!

If you're lookinf for free music software, two threads you will be extremely interested in include the 'portable freeware studio' thread ---> http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight= and the 'the big thread of free vsts' ---> http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=54027

If you had the original software and lost the serial code, try typing logic audio in to thepiratebay - this is illegal if you hav not purchased the software before, but you can get a full working version

aww futures_untold beat me to linking his compilation!

I would start here, this will give you everything you need, you then find which parts you like and which you do not, cross reference this with threads about those aspects in the daw that you think you'd like

Then try the demo's, then eventualy you should think your settled, then you'll get bored, then you'll try another and another till you have them all!

Legitimatly of course.

Also, you will only really find 2 styles of DAW I.m.o

Teh all in one wonders, FL (Ghetto), Reason (Huge but Tiny) and Ableton (Different!)

The rest are basicaly Linear, and will all look similar...

This is all I.M.O of course

BTW can FL use VST's?

I was going to point out that Reason doesnt, and Ableton can..

FL supports vst plugins all day long.... :)

er.... no.

....cuz it can't record audio out of the box, doesn't support badass VST plugins like One Small Clue 'Poise' (which kills Redrum/NNXT for drum sampling), it actually costs money if you want decent tech support and finally, it gets updated once every decade without any of the features users actually ask for................. LOL that shit's so old I don't even think it's legal if you dl it anymore.

Hmmm how does that work...Emagic doesnt exist anymore....and Apple certainly aint making no money off it

and is FL really "ghetto"?....I think those distinctions dont really exist anymore.
