David Icke's an interesting bloke, I don't really think he's a battyman. When you first hear his ideas from other people he sounds like a lunatic but he himself seems fairly levelheaded and intelligent.

Anyway more to the point, that kind of conspiracy bollocks is the antithesis of proper engagement with the world.

People DO give them credibility though, that's just the problem.

Big Brother and MTV might be dumb, pacifying entertainment, but they don't actually encourage people to believe in fantasyland stuff.

But in general the world is so full of people who believe in complete fucking fairyland nonsense. Whether it's following radical preachers, signing up for Kaballah or Scientology, spending £££££ on homeopathy and reiki healing, being anti-evolution, or believing - as a worrying number of people do - that "Jews control the media" or "America engineered 9-11", the current appetite that people have to swallow absolutely anything rather than deal with the grim realities of life is a bit scary.

It's like the world's been taken over by a bunch of hippie bullshit artists or something.

This book should be required reading in schools:
