Massive vs Albino3

Post by Sinus Sawtooth » Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:00 am

so, I'm thinking about ditching Massive and buying Albino3, reason is that I think Massive is a bit overrated, and for some reason my bass sound always come out the same,... I've downloaded a cracked copy of Albino to check out if it's suits my style, yes I know people frown upon cracked software, but it's the same as getting a testdrive from a cardealer, and yes I know there's a demo but torrenting is faster ;-)

FUCK, I KNOW IT'S ILLEGAL AND STUFF, SHADDAP ALREADY!

ok, so back to the point, I've played around with it for a couple of hours, automated the cutoff filter in FruityLoops cuz I couldnt find a way to do it in the VSTi like Massive does, sounds nice and stuff... think I'll probably do it, or even use both in production, Albino3 for the dark deep subs and Massive for the screaming midcack... don't understand the program fully but the original comes with a manual which I can read while I'm taking a shit... anyways, I know that the reason I'm ditching Massive is probably because I suck at sounddesign, but I can't help thinking that's because the program is limited and all you got is brutal electro-like sounds... I want to feel my bass is alive and is evolving to a giant alpacasquid with laserguided tentacles...

any suggestions/idea's/alpacas?

damn, program is 200 euro's though... any Albino3 users here?

xxx

tough choice :x
well, depends, bass is bass, it's still nothing more then a sine, sawtooth or whatever at a low Hz, but, what one can achieve by using processing and the effects of the synth is an art... and I do think Massive is limited in that way thus achieving this "massive" sound which you here in a lot of dubstep... but on the other hand as I already wrote down is that maybe MY synthese skills suck big time and I need to relearn my synth instead of doing all those little tricks I learned...

just red that Noisia uses Albino3 as their bass-synth... wtf...

*edit*

maybe I should just stick to 3xOsc, serious, that baby ROCKS

No need to ditch one for the other, play with albino a bit and see if it offers you something suitably different to massive, if you find you can do nice things with it that you couldn't do in massive then use both, if not then try a different synth.

Massive can accomplish way more than just bass. Try linking shit randomly and you'll hear the sounds it comes up with. If you get stuck in this box of "Massive for bass" it'll eventually get redundant.

Try Alchemy....really good.

If your basses always come out the same in massive, eventually that'll happen with albino, look at the way you do it, not just the tools

Massive is massively overrated imo.
if you want to buy a big, powerful workhorse bass synth, get either FM8 or Alchemy. Alchemy has the nice granular synthesis, dope modulation and tons of filters, while FM8 is an FM synth that makes brapalicious basses(and everything else).

both are really useful. I find the albino interface much more userfriendly.

massive can get REALLY, really weird, which is a plus.
