A good entry level midi controller?

Post by mkfd » Mon Aug 24, 2009 7:23 pm

I'm looking at getting more involved in my digital djing. (djing with my keyboard is just shit). Are there any budget midi controllers that get the job done and do it well for the price?

I've looked at the Hercules DJ Console RMX Controller, as well as the Numark Omni Control. Any criticisms?

Recommendations are appreciated
Thanks

Obviously you can buy from elsewhere depending on what suits you best but i just posted the htfr links as a quick overview.
Ye I'm thinking quite seriously about going with the NUMARK OMNI CONTROL. What sort of lifespan do these numarks have? and are they durable for gigs?

I haven't heard good things about that controller. It has a cheap plastic feel

got a hercules rmx through yesterday, its alright, can't find fault in it so far.
gonna have a proper sesh on it today.
haven't really used anything else so i've got nothing to compare it to.
from experience with a numark mixer i can say they're pretty shoddy, alot of people feel the same, then again the midi controller could actually be pretty good.

exactly. lets for the sake of argument reduce the shortlist to either sub £200 purchases, or specificaly control surfaces only, without soundcard.

My shortlist is Numark Total Control, BCD3000, Herc Console, X-Session Pro (looks like has a lot missing), Ion ICue, Stanton SCS3D DaScratch, Stanton SCS3M or the Allen & Heath Xone 1D

ps can't beleive i've never seen a xp5 before...

Ive got an Omni control for sale if anyone wants first refusal? Couldnt get along with it for Djing cos I have massive sausage fingers.

Or will swap for a decent external soundcard.

PM me if anyones interested.

Money is tight at the moment and I need to know if I really need to dish out the money for the Hercules DJ Console RMX Mixer or a Numark Omni Control

I hear the mk2 is quite basic and it isn't very pretty. But practically is it any good? Anyone got one or toyed with one? Criticisms?

Should I go all the way or can I just stop off with a mk2 and be happy?

I have some friends that use the Korg Nano line. I believe each piece is about $70.
