The Sytrus Thread

Hey everyone. Yes I did a search! No I did not find anything particulary for Sytrus, so there

I've messed about with Sytrus a bit (and yes, I have read the intructions!), and it is still, largely, a mystery to me. I use presets, but as for getting my own sounds how I want, not happening.

I understand the principles of the matrix on the right of the window, but often i can't get what I think should happen to happen.
For instance I want Operator 1 to flow into Filter 1. Then I mess around with the filter envelopes, and nothing happens.
Or for another instance, I have a sound and want to change the volume envelope, but I can't for the life of me find it. I check all the volume envelopes, and either they are not on, or they are on and I can't tell what effect they are having on the sound.

I would really like to get to know this synth a little more, because it looks like it would be awesome if I knew how to use it. Some of the presets (e.g. some of the strings) are amazing, and it would be great to be able to create them.

So, anyone got any Sytrus tips or methods that work well? Any explanations of the processes that happen?

A Sytrus user! I love this synth. It's probably one of the best I've come across to make all sorts of different sounds. I hope you stick to it and enjoy it as much as me. Anyway, here you go.

Sytrus is one of the most complex and in depth synths there are. With that said just about anything is possible with it, but with the complexity comes the learning curve.

And Expert Village goes quite in depth into all of Sytrus. The movies are short but very, very helpful in learning.

Sytrus is awesome! but the learning curve is huge, all I can say is that save your presets regularly because it's really really easy to mess up your sound while your still learning.

definately a good advice!
it happend often enough that i twisted only a few knobs in the modulation matrix and was never able to get the initial sound back (that i liked).

if someone has got some selfmade presets show me watcha got! (:
would be much appreciated

If you want to route operator one through filter one you need to:
1. Turn the knob that routes O1 into Filt1 in the matrix up
2. Turn the knob that routes O1 into the output down
3. Turn the knob that routes Filt1 into the output up

The traditional filter env is on the Filt1 tab, select cut and then select env
Each module has it's own volume envelope, under vol and then env

It takes a while to get this synth, but once it clicks it's very powerful and logical. Once you "get" sytrus, you're going to love IL's filterbank

It is a serious synth that has so many buttons that drastically change the sound.

I get on a lot better with FM8 but Sytrus is a killer synth I just don't like the way the waveforms are

it makes some SUPER pads though

If you have purchased your FL8 and have access to the StudioLine Forums, there are a shitload of user preset files on there, I reckon some of them must be pretty killer.

i found doing the tutorial in the manual helped me learn the interface, and google and youtube helped me learn about FM Synths.

i've really only used it for pads. been too much to wrap my head around, but want to learn it cause the 3xosc gets old.

I use sytrus for pretty much everything apart from drums effects samples and things to layr a track. I just watched hours of tutorials and spent ages fiddling. I couldnt write anything in a small thread message to help you. Look on youtube for tutorials etc.

i hadn't really thought of this before, but I think I'll start just making basic sounds like sub bass. And using only one operator until know what the hell is going on. Silly, I should have known this would be the ultimate answer to this thread

It'll take a while to get through it, a few days maybe, but afterwards you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want w/ Sytrus.

got it for free with FL, maybe I should start using it,... it's strange though, when I open it it just stares at me like it's plotting mass destruction..
