Before I jump into this battle, I gotta say that I'm not actually bothered by the large sig banner and think the actual pic itself is interesting

Why not make a new banner that says 'The Roots of Dubstep' which links to a larger version of your sig pic hosted on imageshack or flickr??
Keeps the naysayers happy, and makes the actual image readable when it is clicked upon. I had to zoom my browser right in to read it, and even then it wasn't particularly clear
You can make various size banners from scratch for free using this handy online editor that spits out html code for ya
