CAN FILTH BE A NEW GENRE NOW?
Pejman (gritsy/heavyDNB) and I were discussing this subject a couple weeks ago. That a lot of the tracks coming out right now are heavy heavy filth business.
Beyond wobbles, but outright industrial strength metal type Dubstep.
Nothing wrong with that.
I don't mind sub-genre's. I mean. I do it on my HD right now myself anyhow. I don't really see what the big deal would be.
There's nothing wrong with Dubstep. It's growing. Evolving. The talent pool is expanding. Progress is good and welcome.
Embrace it.
Just got my first tracks labeled. Popped my Dubstep production cherry. I am excited.
See you guys soon!

I hate these fucking whining threads.
no body is forcing you to listen to certain sounds... listen to what you like!
It's a different crowd really.
Seeing that your part of a radio station that thrives on the filth this thread is a bit silly no?
I was one of the people in the "nah, its all dubstep, innit" camps for the longest time, but Im sorry... theres just too damn much music with too many influences now.
These threads remind me of this hypothetical conversation...
"I listen to rock".
"Oh really, what kind of rock? Punk, metal, pop, grunge, lo-fi, indie?"
"Nah mate, I said I listen to rock, you know, rock... with guitars."
"Right, right, I get that... but what kind do you like the most?"
"What you mean, like the most... I like it all, I listen to it all... its all just rock..."
"Ok then, who do you like?"
"Oh right... I Tool, Killswitch Engage, Mastadon... "
"So you like metal?"
"NO YOU TWAT, I LIKE ROCK! ROCK! DONT YOU GET IT? ITS ALL ROCK, IT DONT NEED NO SUBGENRES!!!"
There is such a diverse range of styles represented in this wonderful music that all falls under the umbrella term of 'dubstep' that there needs to be a bit more distinction, if only for the ease of discussion and to be sure you know what you're getting into and paying your money for.
Look at house... theres what? 25+ different styles of house? But they're all recognizable as house, and classifying it into different catagories hasnt hurt the genre, not in the least.
All this ambiguity is only confusing matters IMO.
Then go to different shows, it's not like you arn't spoilt for choice in LA.
The thing that really makes me laugh about threads like this is that the filth has been in dubstep since day one, I guess the moaners wern't around then to know this though so the result ends up being 'I wanna hear more of what I like', so go find it because it's out there in abundance.
It really hasnt. 2006 the filthyest dubstep was like......the wobbly skream tunes/certain coki/caspa tunes. these wud all seem pretty mellow compared to nowadays. and that wasnt even day one.Hellfire Machina wrote:

Pretty much anything on Destructive,Storming Productions, early Hotflush ie Knowledge etc, most of Search and Destroys output at that time, Combat Recordings,Distance has been consistently filthy over the years, Darkwan.
I could go on if you like.

I like Nero, and I like some Rusko (homes isn't trying to be serious, I'm convinced it's just a shitload of fun for him to make what he makes)....I like a few of Caspa's older tunes.69Basslines wrote:I like Doorly. Well his bonkers remix is dope havent really heard much else. Have read negative stuff on here about him though & nero too.86 Position wrote:I don't listen to no Doorly though.69Basslines wrote:Am I the only one who likes all types of dubstep? Such an exciting genre on all levels
Is hating on Nero & Doorly the new Caspa & Rusko?
But Doorly? not my thing. I've never listened (or heard much of the name period) to that other cat who gets a lot of hate like Doorly around here. Big Kris or something.
I don't think there are many playing straight chainsaw 60 minute sets though? Not for long anyways.... LOL!

its not "chainsaws" that are the problem. abrasive bass has been around in this sound for years. vex'd were doing it back in 2003-4. its just that nobodys bringing anything new to the table with it. its beyond a formula right now. overload is a better word. the more easy it is for this sound to be locked down into one formula by the general public, the more it loses its ability to change and mutate. its not about trying to protect one sound over another. if you think that, then thats your own insecurity talking. its about pushing for more experimental over more familiar. progression....

This reminds me of old discussions on dogsonacid where people argued about the direction of drum and bass, the reuse of sounds, how it used to be forward thinking, how it is stale, how skullstep sucks, etc. etc.
Same arguments, different genre.

I like it all the same - It's music.
