I looked through this and I couldn't find anything vaguely funny. This is not the real Corpsey. Disregard the above entirely. This may be a signifier of the forthcoming apocalypse, best get the hard hat's on now.Corpsey wrote:Not to get into this conversation but it's quite interesting because I've been reading about the Blues recently and the way black and white genres have interacted in the formation of Blues, Ragtime and so on is quite interesting. For example, Blues is (to simplify) a combination of black field hollers and work songs and European ballad form. Then with ragtime, it started as black musicians imitating white musicians who had been originally imitating black musicians- and then eventually ragtime became imitated by white musicians!
I think there has been on a general level a historical tendency of white audiences going for diluted forms of black music, and perhaps eventually shifting those forms of music on a popular commercial level into that dilution.
But to be honest I think people might dislike grime and like dubstep for any number of reasons. You might just not like MCs, for example. Or it might be too frentic for you. It's a shame, but understandable, that people will hear a few popular grime tunes and base their assumptions about grime as a whole on those few tunes, or make very quick judgements and mentally set them in stone.
On a serious point though, I have nothing to add whatsover.
Hmm....

yeah, a fair criticism, winding people up doesnt always get the best results, and i got a tendency to put shit in absolutes just to make a point, but i aint that fundamental and rigid in my views, its just a way of provoking a reaction, which it has (tho admitedly only from u and a couple of other people), and despite what someone else said about killing the thread its actually turned into something intelligent over these last couple of pages instead of just a load of people taking the piss an talking about carrot cake.elgato wrote: dont get me wrong, i think there are aspects of what you're saying which are very worth saying, but presentation is key if you want to make people think. it is just a difference of opinion though, different styles or whatever, but i dont see it as a productive approach. but then you have got people chatting!
but maybe that shit is more entertaining to read.
anyway, as far as i'm concerned nuthin negative has come out of putting it in extreme terms cos u lot r talking to me now, and ive also learnt some shit, but yeah, u r probably right that those who really need to consider what i'm talking about will just disregard all this an go look for some more cake jokes
might do the same, said pretty much all i have to say on the subject, nice talking to u
i did enjoy the discussion for what its worth, im constantly re-working ideas myself, and this kind of thread gives me the chance to re-examine my own perspective, which is a positive thing. generalisations and absolutes are just unfortunately one of my key buttons...!
but i hope you join discussion more often, you've clearly got a thoughtful character and like to discuss things which you see as important, and more of that type of person make message boards more interesting and worthwhile places

Well messengers get shot!necta selecta wrote:Agreed this is a pointless debate but that's hardly rare on a forum like this, so....
1) Some of the sh!t geenius was dropping at fwd (3/11/07) was just so bang in the middle, like the947sw11 said, the best of both.
2) I can see how request line and (more so) tapped seem like grimy dubstep but it's more stuff like 'what' or 'old skool' or 'star wars' that I find harder to place as one or the other.
3) I'm loving the grimy vibe in some of the new d1 sh!t youngs has been playing lately!
4) I don't understand how people who are "really into music" can try and present an arguement that one ENTIRE genre is better that another.
haha
Listen people I like both grime and dubstep, but its all just garage.. I hate the seperation of the two personally, they both would be a lot phatter if they had the elements of both...
And it don't take an idiot to see that the two are merging back together anyway...
IMO far too many boring productions in both sides...
Skream, Benga, Mystikz make decent tracks but I ain't hearing much decent shit from anyone else yet... Maybe you can point me towards some phat shit instead of this sleepy stuff everyones dropping.

Did not expect it two reach 15 pages if its such nonsense though....

One example yeah!Fushimi wrote:When the poster said "dubstep is grime made properly", doesn't that just mean that the snare sounds in grime are usually a bit weedy and sound like they're straight off an 80's drum machine? From that small difference a whole world of arguments is made.
I wish I started a thread called "Grime producers should learn from Dubstep producers how to make there sounds sound less crap." now...
Anyone heard a track by Foreign Beggars called 'Bollocks'?

Jungle Drum 'n' Bass is one genre. Fraggles who think they are two seperate things need there bollocks shot!naughty child wrote:the same thing was said about the jungle, drum&bass debate it's all the same thing man. just enjoy it for what it is
People get it twisted when they talk about Old Skool and Nu. Because they weren't there at the time they can't see that it just lost many reggae influences and chopped up beats, and gained more hip hop influences and two step beats...
Aaaaaanyway....
You lot like Carrot Cake?
That ain't grime, that's GRIM.

See this is where you're wrong!Foamo wrote:DUBSTEP IS GRIME WITH REVERB
nah jokes.. grimes produced for lyrics etc. thats why its simple. U cant spit verses over dubstep..
Many second / third generation ravers ain't trying to be experimental anymore. Too much copycat shit. Too many unwritten rules.
FUCK THAT.
Do what the fuck you want.
I'm looking forward to hearing decent MCs on dubstep DJs. I ain't feeling the handful of dubstep MCs. They are too 1990s sounding!

I'm definately with you there...narcossist wrote:If you choose to create a divide between genres [not just talking dubstep or grime] and ignore some in preference of others your just shooting yrself in the foot when it comes to finding good tunes......
I keep tellin junglists round my way to stop pigeonholing there drum 'n' bass as liquid funk, or fucking jump-up, or bloody nuerofunk, or fucking chamberstep - whatever the fuck the dumb frauds wanna call it this time () - its all just jungle!! haha..
When I shop for tunes I listen to it all, even if I'm always disappointed by one artist, I'll still check for it JUST IN CASE. Most raves round here are just one stand of music. BORING!!!
When man start up new labels to "cater for the more <insert> side of drum 'n' bass / garage / house / whatever, all they are doing, if you ask me, is prohibiting newer listeners from discovering more styles of the music. Because people so often stick to what they know, innit. They don't have time to take risks... If it was all on one label, as opposed to five or something. More people would have to check more styles.....
It's all just electro!

i think dubstep is smoother and the bass is more like bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and grime is bzzzbzzzbzzzbzzbzzzbzzz
grime is this kind of industrial sound in it which makes it urban and thats the stuff i like
both are "urban underground" so they r both cool, but nothing beats dubstep

Let those dirty vibes get you and fall into the dubstep coma...
