Really? Don't like it at all. Each to their own thoughSkrapes wrote:I know I was lean as fuck, but I didn't imagine that Minnie Riperton relick thing, did I?? That was totally unexpected, but I quite liked it.

i think dubstep has to really shy away from obvious things like this. i would hate it if all these tracks which we were classics in their own right, just got the dubstep rerub. or, heaven forbid, the notion of 'artist x - track y (dubstep remix)' became cultural currency.

Sure there's good remixes and bad remixes.. but from what I can tell, whoever remixed this (cough) has just slapped dubsteppy drums and bass over the top of the vocal, and he can do much better.RickyRicardo wrote:^^ I mostly agree w/ you, but at the same time I think if you can make a *good* remix, then by all means don't let the fact that it's a remix stop you.
It's a slippery slope, though, for sure....
I'm a big Minnie fan, so that remix hits doubly close to home
Just One Of Those Days and Burnin' are great examples of whole new tunes that completely recontextualise the vocal...
totally agree with your counter points. i'm not saying that remixes shouldn't be done but just that they should add something. recontextualisation is key but not as simple as putting it in a dubstep framework.

The reason they didnt go mad to that rewind cos it had already been pulled up once.boomnoise wrote:it was on the scale of busy i dont like. ok i hark back to the days where i knew one in four of everybody in there but the peeps tonight didn't seem to be feeling it. i pulled back sensi by cluekid and there was alkmost no crowd reaction. weird in the context of n type's mind blowing audience participation of juat a few months ago. i want this sound to be popular but i want people to understand as well. at least a more natural less self conscious reaction as we seem to be getting from a lot of audience members.
that sais i enjoyed it and tried not to watch anything elkse. i need to get off the bus now.
Rewinds are like marmite they have a love hate relationship with people.
There are definate statigic times to pull up a tune to create croud hype.
Its different on radio to a dance! In a dance you have to make sure that is the right time to do it or it can have a adverse effect. on radio its all about one blings on the mobile fone and most people are just chilling in their car or house so they aint dancing about.
@ the end of the day all a rewind does is cause breaks in the music so you have to make sure the croud are so hype that they actually look fwd to listening to the intro again.
so really a tune should only be pulled up if nearly the entire club wants it.
some times I wanna pull some tunes up cos i love them but i dont cos people aint feeling them as much as me. Thats why I hold back on rewinds untill i can really see people want one.
Also remember I didnt have an MC on my set till the last 2 chunes.
Rewinds are dodgy when there is no MC to hype up the set and talk while chunes are brought back.

Easy boom i wasnt digging at you mate. I was just bringing to light the awkward situation we are in at the moment with rewinds. Im not havin go at you! ur one of the main reasons people brock out in a rave. You were just getting involved in the hype of the moment! I try to encourage that in every set! Its all about getting involved!!boomnoise wrote:i dunno - i was in the zone that's all.

Its hard to explain the situation in type.
I hope ive explained myself better now.
Ive been hearing about some madness that people have been starting petitions to stop the rewinds and that????
Wot????? in my opinion rewinds are heavy!
Rewinds are cool its just at the right time i suppose!
I love hearing a tune twice!
