PLEASE PLEASE help on this effect

Ok peeps!! im looking for an effect, i have searched the search option and nothing at all, i have tried the Cubase website and still non the wiser and also the Production Bible!!!!!

Heres what im looking for!
(Just want to say im not looking to copy the sound, im just looking for how the effect is created)
PS i have Cubase and running Albino 3 and Kontakt with some other little VST.

I want to get the 2nd synth on my tune to 'build up' for the second drop, as in, its quiet and builds up but you have that 'muffled' sound to it, kind of like this in the intro to the following tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptQWUZqB3Oo

Thats the frequency being automated


Edit; listen to it again sounds like hes doing it on the mixer taking the hi n mids away but you can do the same effect with frequency automation

Ohh yeah!!! i knew the 2nd audio was done by the mixer... sorry i forgot to add that

I had an idea it kinda was but as im new to all this i wasnt 100%

Im using Albino 3 to create the synth and running this in Cubase!
