Recommend me a filter please?

Post by desertdustdigital » Wed Sep 09, 2009 11:24 pm

I used to use Opcode's old Fusion Filter, and maybe need something similar. I know that is old as dirt so something newer will work. I just spent an hour looking around, but I'm afraid I can't find what it is I am looking for. I need a go to filter. A little help would be greatly appreciated.

atlantis filter is sick....but careful...randomly messing around with it, with no experience and forgetting to turn the volume down can nearly deafen you.

Thanks. I reeeeally appreciate it. Thanks for all those links futures, much appreciated. It's a frosh question, but let's say i have a raw wav of an EQed sine wave. I want to use a filter to bring the bass in and out very quickly in waves. Sorta like the LFO wobble in a synth, but just a low pass to make my bass dynamic. I know this can be more easily done WITH a synth, but it CAN be done with a filter plug-in right?

Assuming it is a sample, you could load the sample into a sampler and use the filters on your sampler. Short Circuit 1 has excellent filtering options and is free.

Or, you can use a filter with either envelope following or midi triggered envelopes. All these two options do is tell an ADSR or LFO when to start its cycle (controlling the filter cutoff usually).

The top six listed all have inbuilt LFOs for modulating the filters and the top two have envelope followers as well.

Some of the freeware filters also have built in LFOs/ADSRs like Atlantis Filter, Classic Auto Filter and Sanford Auto Filter.

Failing that, you could simply automate the filter by hand via automation within your host sequencer. IF you want cyclical automation (like an LFO), look into midi LFOs that tie the filters midi CC number to an lfo on the midi LFO.

Surprised no one's mentioned Sonalksis TBK. Basic filter, but top quality.
