Hey, sorry for topping an old post, but I found this from a google search looking for some dubstep or drum&bass clubs in Austin.
I see a lot of people saying the scene is awesome here, but there are only two clubs listed in this thread. plush and barcelona's. I've been to plush, was a major let down. just a tiny place and not very great tunes...haven't tried barcelona's yet though. Anything else?? compared to some clubs i've been to overseas, the scene here is weak! help me out..i'm looking around but not finding it...
thanks!

I live right outside Austin and I'm really interested in this. Unfortunately I feel like it'll all be wobtrash?

Mad Classy are all about BASS. Probably have the best system in Austin.

while they do tend to play stuff on the heavier, aggressive side, everything is backed with bass. it's not midrange tearout and it still has some groove. if you're just not into that either, they bring some deep headliners and the vibe is always THICK.

Up-to-date Austin Weekly Dubstep list:

Tuesday - Mad Classy at Malaia
Wednesday - Sub Perception at Firehouse (and supposedly Sub.Conscious at Barcelona...never hit this up)
Thursday - Not sure who but they just started this weekly at Canvas (never hit this up either)
Friday - Weight at Plush AND Sub Perception at Firehouse
Sunday - Mad Classy at Barcelona

some recent big names to come through...
Gemmy
Chef
Pinch
Hatcha
Truth
Caspa
The Others (well really just D-code...seen "the others" twice and have never seen dexterous)
Noisa/Nero
Mimosa
Rusko
Bassnectar

the people that play Weight at plush on fridays play a good mix of different kinds of dubstep.
most of the others play a lot of tearout (keep your snobby terms in the hate threads please), but most people around here are into that...so that's what gets played.

If your into dubstep and haven't checked out the scene in Austin when you live around here..you are missing out.

no problem.

One word of advice though. Don't expect anything in Austin to be like what you went to overseas. My assumption is that you will always be sorely disappointed. Expect less, have more fun!

Actually there's a new night focusing on deeper stuff in Austin, every other Sunday night at Plush. Called Elevator Action, and I highly recommend it. FBOM, Outlaw Producer, I/O and DJ Fiction are residents.

edit: Also, I'd say Austin is a bit more even than *just* brostep/tearout stuff. Sure that's the bread'n'butter of Mad Classy, but I've heard plenty of deep stuff there, as well. Hell, best bass night I've had in the club was RSD at Mad Classy.

Much love to all doin' their thing in Austin
