DJ's that don't produce
Good thing about talented producers djing is that they're more likely to try out weird creative ideas for their mixes, juts look at Daft Punk (i mean 97 era).

Pinch is a fuckin great dj and producer...
Anyway i think it really doesn't matter if a dj produces or not, the thing that's bad is if the dj's tracklist is only made of Skream, Benga, Rusko and all the staples tunes from the month. DJ can be an art if the guy diggs the crate seriously and if his skillz are good. My mates Skar and Phonetics are good examples..
By the way, i sometime wonder what's the point of a producer doing a DJ set if he isn't a very good DJ... This scene needs more live, cuz Gravious live in Brussels was really one of my best experience with dubstep.

btw a lot of great producers were dj'ing long before they started making music, so they have the experience, the background, and the tunes - people might get the booking cos of the tunes they do, but if you don't deliver as a dj, you'll only do 1 round of gigs and then no one asks you back.
I think Oneman does produce, I have a remix he done of an Oddz vs. Temps trackDubloke wrote:I thought i read somewhere Onemans got a tune with Toddla T?Isiahfire wrote:Oneman?

Really interesting thread, I wonder if it's all a matter of perspective. i.e. if you're a DJ the priority is the mix and if you're a producer the priority is the production.
It seems to me that neither DJ's nor producers can best answer this question. It's those people who are simply fans of the music that matter as they don't have an agenda.
is there anybody on here who doesn't DJ or produce that can offer their opinion?

The main difference from when I started djing about 17years ago is that 95% of the djs get to dj through producing tunes and not through being a good dj/selector which therefore has lead to a raft of mediocre djs coming through over the years.
