First of all big up! You've seen my thread about Manhattan Blues so you know I'm a fan.

First off if you don't mind there is two sounds in Manhattan Blues (the main kind of "melody" and the rhythm stab) is that a sample or a synth? Been trying to make sounds like that and just can't do it - I think it's quite similar to some of the sounds Mala uses that just sound really... "organic"!

Also any advice for people trying to make good music - how did you improve, just practice?

Also the obvious - what is your set up?

Big up!
Love the tunes mate!

Right first of all what are your influences musically, that are outside the dubstep genre.

Also what software/hardware are you using at the moment and why :P?

Absolutely banging! ! ! Big ups Cyrus and pdomino for putting this together.

So.. Lets start with From The Shadows, I ALWAYS listen to this album when I travel and have done since I copped the CD..

So how did you go about making it? Its very spacious and flows VERY well, how many tracks did you start with before you narrowed it down ? What was the influence of the album? And I found where you got the sample for "Bounty" the other day which makes me laugh cause I never, ever thought of looking at places like that for samples! hahaha

Secondly, you're one of the leading artists in the scene and been there since day dot, do you feel you have a lot more to bring to the world of dubstep and are you currently making any other styles of music under an alias or something (no need to say the alias if you don't want too)

Third - Do you use many synths - I often (hope this isnt' insulting) think you use a lot of samples (spesh in the earlier stuff)

I could go on all day but i'll leave it at that for now.

The stab in manhatten blues is actually a sample of a single stab i came acros in an old sample folder. I just added some reverb an eq to get the effect i wanted.

For me, good music is soming that sounds unique. Keep making music that you feel and you'll soon find your sound. Use other beats as insperation by all means but bring your own twist on things.
Practice defiantly makes perfect. Your next tune will always be better then the previous but half of the fun is learning soming new.

My current set up is:

Carlion pc with rme soundcard
Cubase 4 runnning a bunch of vst
Dynaudio bm 6a mk 2
Cubase cc121 controller
presonus monitor station
M-audio keyboard
tannoy reveal 5 a
tannoy ts8 sub ( never use)

I think thats about it.

Thanks.

I grew up listening to a wide range of music but i think the style that had the most influence on me was reggae ( shaabbaa). I've always been fascinated by sub bass. Also film scores, i like the tension they build up.

Thanks man, im glad you like the lp.

I already had 3 or 4 of the tunes already written before i was asked to write an album (unheard before of course). I just set out to bring an album of what i was about at the time. I also wanted to write soming that could be listend to in any enviroment. I wrote a bunch of tunes over the next 2 months or so then worked with the label to work out the final tracklist. I cant remember how many never made the cut though.

I still have alot to bring to the scene..i've only scratched the surfice. Im learning new things every time im in the studio and still think theres a long way to go. Im not really producing any other style at the moment to be honest ( thats worth mentioning anyway)

Apart from kicks, snares, hats ect i actually use synths more then samples.

Im not to sure. I think every tune i make is better then the last but if i had to choose 1 i suppose i would say Gutta. I think its because, to me its got that original vybe to it. (not because its produced any better then 1 of the others).

what would you say?
