DSF Event Febuary 2010...
Hello all, i have managed to speak to the Beaverworks in Leeds and the plan is to have an event for ourselves at the end of Febuary...
There is three rooms so two rooms of music and the bar room with stalls and games and things.
Now I aint loaded and im not just blindley going to throw money at this but the fact is its going to cost money, i am however a socailist and believe that if we get our heads together we can sort this out!
So we need - ideas and volunteers to run stalls (mastering engineers?) might be a good opportunity to talk to potential customers give advice and business cards?
A demo swap shop... so get your demos together.
Headline acts - who do we want to see and how can we get them cheap so as to keep tickets down...
DJs two rooms to fill from 6 in the evening to 5 in the morning plenty of scope for playing!
Promoters and coach organisers - 1 or two from the major citys to organis a coach and help promote the event thus putting more money in the kitty....
and your ideas
anyway this is the thread to discuss
Cheers

I thought this was going to be in London!?
Not feeling going to Leeds if I am honest but I suppose I'd have to bite my tongue.
Contacting people like Ableton & Steinberg and what not maybe a good idea as I know I have seen their names on nearly every workshop ive seen within the last 6 months and also maybe contacting Ammunition (tempa, rinse, etc..) to maybe sponsor this as they like to promote the expansion of dubstep and I think this event could be something what could make people from other genres take dubstep a bit more seriously.
Maybe get as much sponsorship as possible is the best option and I think its to much to plan in what.. 5 months? But seeing the time frame - I'd love to see this event what is about up-an-coming artists more than the more bigger names (even though they WILL draw crowds.
Maybe get some Q&A sessions from bigger producers(like red bull academy) as well as labels getting like 20-30 minute "stand up" spots where they could promote their label so the demo swap can be more .. selective (maybe each label who books a spot can have their own tub for demos so if people bring multiple they can get it to people who they feel their material suits the most) and also they can promote their back catalogue/forth coming material.
I'd also like to suggest the option of having a open brainstorm on IRC or AIM chat with a handful of people who're serious about making this happen.
EDIT: After looking at the venue, its a club? Not to sure if this is the best venue for the event, maybe the after party?

Lol, i was thinking next i'll go and speak to Simon Scott (exodus) and make sure this wont clash with Subdub or Exodus and then set the date, maybe ask simon to help out with booking artists... and ask him to play. My mate is Sarantis from Senless Records i could ask him to do a tune workshop? then once the date is set ill speak to Abelton et al and see if they show us de moneys! or at least come and show us some shit yo!
fair enough then! I mean, I would more than gladly help put this together and send emails etc... I mean we do need a good 4-10 people to come together and make this happen the idea of it in leeds only puts me off a bit cause its a bastard to get up there, places to stay etc.. Spesh for those on a tight budget which kinda gives me the impression (spesh what money is like these days) is will only attract the heads "mainly" from north of the country, though this is just a theory and i'm probably chatting complete bollocksNoizy Parka wrote:Hello, well the reason its in Leeds and not London is because that's where i live and it seems im currently the only one who's willing to get the ball rolling. deffo speak to simon, I know he helps a few people out with bookings & I think generally getting him involved even if its only a minor capacity will be good for the event.
PM me if you want any help/brainstorming & i'll see what i can do

am glad finally the ball is rolling now!!
of course there is alot of jobs to be done before this to happen..
I think many people will turn up if its done right and at the right price
The 1st thing that comes to my mind is the venue of course, since you live there it would be a good idea to find out the price of the place.. how much is that venue going to cost!
Once you have found out the price you need to find out how many people you need come to break even come on now we don't want to make a loss, break even would do just find at least i think, if you make abit of profit thats fine too, you can sort that out later once
This is the sum=
cost of venue divided by the ticket price
will tell you how many people you need to turn up to not make a loss
thats the first thing you need to do, once you done that you need to inform us and then from there we will contact the supports and then inform the members on here then you can hire the venue...?

Not sure about everyone else but I wouldn't personally like to talk money (in figures) on a public forum! but yes what you said above is the first step.

don't worry venue will be next to nothing...we run enough nights in Leeds. just thinking one of my friends is nominated for a BAFTA for his work on games... could ask the music side of games to represent? If we can get sponsers to represent then i can image tickets being about a fiver, without we would be looking at a tenner....

dont make it a club night thing where it becomes a party. Sure make a after party but me (and i'm sure a few more under 18's) will be up for this.
Also i'm not really feeling the idea of promotion, for me personally i would want to go to meet people and pick up alot of tips and advice. Not get bombarded with "BUY MY RELEASE" crap.

Re: DSF Event Febuary 2010...
first off all this is really hard to read all these new comments with this new skin i don't know why but i am finding it difficult, so neways,
as you said we would need some sponsers to represent..
but before you start sending out emails and stuff to get them, you need to firstly work out what were going to be doing in the workshops.. EXACTLY.. so then the emails can start going out, because you can not send out emails with out a brief.
so everyone... what do we want to do on the day....
What time would this workshop start?
