If anyone thinks this is bad, they better start crediting every free VST they use cos its pretty much the same principle. Its using someone elses sounds on a dub when you havent paid for it, only difference being the riffs already mapped out.
Not something I'd do but fuck if I'm gonna shit talk Skream for it.

Someone else makes a sound, you dick about with it and put it in a dub. Same thing to me. As long as the entire track isnt the same why should it matter where the sound comes from?
Re: Scream if you want to know the truth.
By letter of the law there is something wrong with taking the amen. It is not a public domain sample. No difference in taking it and taking a midi file imo.nitz wrote:there noting wrong with using that loop, practicably maybe every good dnb use it.yellowhighlighter wrote:wtf am i talking about? i have around 100 songs with looped amens.

fuck the law though.
Re: Scream if you want to know the truth.
So your saying using a amen break against law is wrong yeh? it probably is am not %100 sure but then using a amen break is lawfully wrong but taking someone else musical work is morally wrong, they are two different things, just a few days a i was studying copyright law, and there are two types of copyright when it comes to music, the composition (midi file in are case) and then there the recording copyright (the masters) and to be in breach of composition copyright you need take musical ideas that are not used and use them, but taking a small piece eg sampling a kick snare can not result in breach of this copyright.abz wrote:By letter of the law there is something wrong with taking the amen. Re: Scream if you want to know the truth.
this is a track someone has composed (albeit a MIDI one).. and the riff, chords and guitar line have all been lifted. this is a bit different from tweaking a preset and then composing your own track. after all, the whole point of VST's is to make music with them..the point of composing a track is definitely not to have someone rip ideas from it.neutral wrote:Someone else makes a sound, you dick about with it and put it in a dub. blue eyez is still a tune though...!

Again, I am not justifying this but for everyone that's all up at arms about this, lets talk about the practicality:
contakt321 wrote: Where would he actually credit said midi loop company?
I mean, most releases these days are digital, some are 12"s. The 12"s are frequently in a generic die cut jacket.
Where should he credit them? In the song title "(featuring blah blah blah midi loops)"
On the center label? Many mix and mastering engineers frequently aren't credited there either.
I am curious what the company expects.

doesn't bother me tbh, as long as the end product is good the thats all that matters to me

Yeah actually, I agree with that so I'll admit I was horribly wrong lol. I just think people get too up in arms about sampling. Skream made it far better than it was originally, and thats that. I refuse to believe that anyone can own a riff but thats me.remedial wrote: this is a track someone has composed (albeit a MIDI one).. and the riff, chords and guitar line have all been lifted. this is a bit different from tweaking a preset and then composing your own track.
And yeah it is a tune

Re: Scream if you want to know the truth.
It isn't the point, the point is to create something that someone will hopefully enjoy but if you write something good invariably people are going to rip ideas from it. Midnight Request Line is nearly responsible for the way the entire genre of dubstep sounds right now for example.remedial wrote:this is a track someone has composed (albeit a MIDI one).. and the riff, chords and guitar line have all been lifted. this is a bit different from tweaking a preset and then composing your own track. after all, the whole point of VST's is to make music with them..the point of composing a track is definitely not to have someone rip ideas from it.neutral wrote:Someone else makes a sound, you dick about with it and put it in a dub. yeah i don't see any problem with taking influence from tracks, as a lot of the time its a subconcious thing anyway, but this is different. it doesn't sound slightly like it - it is nearly identical. there wasn't even an attempt to make it ambiguous.

Re: Scream if you want to know the truth.
why do you keep asking this question? if somebody wants to answer it they'll answer it. to answer your question, it's the same when artists get permission to use a sample. generally speaking when this sort of stuff is done and the person who composed the original finds out it is kind of assumed that they are deserving of at least some sort of credit. wheter it be financial or at least a mention in the linear notes.contakt321 wrote:Again, I am not justifying this but for everyone that's all up at arms about this, lets talk about the practicality:

just for clarification... IT'S NOT THE SOUND HE 'JACKED'... it's the song arrangement and composition
