"Help Me Make This Sound Thread PART TWO" ;)

Post by 68.artist » Sat Sep 19, 2009 10:52 am

i thought the idea of the original "Help me make this sound" thread was brillant but wasnt organised enough so i thought id give it ago n try re-pay the forum for giving me so much help on improving my own productions and sounds etc. 1st to lay down a few ground rules lol -
1 - always have an example of the sound and say the time it comes in
2 - try to answer a question before you ask your own
3 - say what program or vst you are trying to attempt to make the sound in
4 - dont ask for patches! the idea of this thread is to encourage people to create the sound themselves

i'll try my best to answer EVERYONE'S questions, since mom's in hospital im gnna ave a lot of spare time of my hands so figure i mite aswell do sumfing useful!

now for my question :)

anyone know how to make these sortta bass sounds in reason 4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SHFWpGH ... re=related (bass enters at around 32 seconds) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1j0aVpu ... re=related (bass enters at 28 seconds)
thanks in advance to anyone who can help me as i want to do a remix for a school project soon lol!

keep this thread alive! :)

god bless people

Sounds like some heavily distorted low saw waves probs with a sine underneath, i think its gonna be switchin up teh lfo to give that stuttery effect which cause you teh real problems. Sorry i cant be more of a help, when i program synths i kinda jam till it sounds ok lol

im gonna be cheeky and go fer two noises here.

the bass out of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GefxiTrmkOk? its got really sexy glidey bits and is quite chunky (which i assume is down to processing) or just basslines of that style in general, fans of kitsune releases will know what i mean. also http://www.myspace.com/russchimes the lead synth from "when the sirens sound" (sorry couldnt find this song on youtube)
safe

It also sounds like there's some layers in there. I've been messing around trying to make something similar, and the more I listen the more I hear a dige lol. Haven't had much luck though. Gonna keep messin :|

Meh, I'm using Circle, mostly, I'd be open to using FM8 if I had, but I am sure this can be done with subtractive synthesis:

The hoover that kicks in at 0:58 How do I make one like this?

im not a synth wiz but im sure if you made a regular hoover (theres probably bare tutorials on this sorta thing, on this board and on youtube etc.) then applied an envelope controlling the pitch so that it goes down, then whack up teh decay, turn down teh release and fiddlle with the sustain (think i got that right) then of course lowpass it till it sounds rightish, Btw sorry if that wasnt helpful in the slightest :)

edit : sorry i meant change teh decay as its teh decay which dictates how long the pitch falls for

Hahaha.. I tried that. Maybe I just did something wrong, I don't really pay enough attention to what I do.

Thanks, man. I'll give it another shot.

Yeeaah I know, I always thought that he just uses shit from sample packs/CDs. Sounds like it, anyway.

I guess there's my answer: resampling.

I think for the first one it is a sine wave for the solid unobtrusive bas tone and then two detuned saw waves for the crunch and with legato/glide switched on. I think it is just a case of getting the phase just right on the detuned saws and then filtering them to get rid of any unwanted grit. There is possibly a square wave instead of the sine to give it some more substance.

Doesn't sound like there is too much automation going on within or if there is it is incredibly minimal.

Hope this helps.

Just listend to that lead synth in the Alan Braxe track. That sounds to me like it may well have been created using the Albino Arpeggiator and then routed through to the built in Gater which you can sync to tempo and play around with to incorporate panning. The sound itself sounds ilke saws once again. Layered, detuned and then fine tuned with a filter.

Hope this helps.

Right i have attempted to answer two. Not sure i nailed it but gave it my best.

I have become mildly obsessed with re-creating the sickeningly fast swishy stick wobble. I literally sit there for hours just trying to get it. I asked the question on previous thread similar to this one but didn't get much further with so i thought i'd try getting a fresh perspective.

Here are two examples -

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciOmlFLZNx0

It is the incredibly quick modulated sound after after the initial slow opening tone. Bout 50secs.

2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SUZ7urstcY

Once again the really quick, swishy, choppy sound. First hits at about 40secs.

I understand the basics behind it. Sounds like 1/16 lfo routed to the filter cut off and/or possibly the amplitude. Unfortunatley it is not that simple. It just sounds messy when i try it.

I have tried Massive, Albiino 3 and Absynth 4. I've tried syncing the lfo with that programme or even using an external lfo (Camel Phat, Antares fiilter) but it never sounds quite as.....clean.

Last night i tried splitting my bass into a low passed sub and a high passed/band passed mid and high section and then put the wobble only on the high passed and band passed elments. It seemed to work a bit better but still not quite as....clean.

I can definately hear some reverb there helping to fill in the gaps and i am not entirely sure but i reckon there may be a white noise element there too to give it that crisp top. I also found that i lost too much beef once i'd split the signal and it sounded quite weak and so i tried putting a tube amp onto the midrange segment but that was too much.

I hope i have explained myself and truly hope someone out there can help me iut on this as i literally losing sleep over it.

I JUST WANNA SWISHY STICK CHOPPER WOBBLE!!!!

Ah, all you need to do is record an old man whacking his walking stick against a table at 1/32 or record one hit then sequence it in your DAW to play 1/32.

Nah, seriously, I would love to know how to make this sound too.

How do I make:

The sound (stab?) you can hear at 0:56/0:57 Waveforms/filtering/possible modulation, please?

The synth that kicks in at 1:18 same here.. waveforms/filtering/possible modulation?

Meh.. using Circle as my main synth, host is Renoise.

Help, please!
