Re: Things that prevent you from producing tunes...
At the moment; everything! I can keep concentration on a track for about 5 minutes before deciding i have an essay or some studying to do.
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

Actually getting on with making tunes. There were times when I just didn't feel like making tunes. If I ever wanted to have my tunes released, I had to, as nike would say, "just do it". So every chance I get, I work on a tune, or sample, or design sounds on my xio.

Concentrating on a tune Im not feeling
Not concentrating on a tune Im feeling
In example 1 Im pushing a song or 'doing the work' so to speak but its like laying bricks. Time consuming and not that rewarding till you have at least a frame of a house (sic).
In example 2 Im flightily swapping from tune to tune making slight improvements on each but not progressing any of them to a high enough level ...
I used to try and combat these feelings but now (because Im no longer in a hurry to do stuff* - *read I got a job) I dont mind pottering till the track demands my attention.
And thats how it works - I have pool of ideas I toy with until one day one of them goes OI!
This is how I roll mofos ... dont sweat what is happening just let it happen. But for years I chased the dream until I realised you cant mimic inspiration.

Re: Things that prevent you from producing tunes...
Just don't go making these things excuses. I have a full time job, wife, 2 kids, house, run a label, help promote a weekly, dj, gotta watch my football and hockey teams too lol. I still find the time to finish music that is releasable. I produce in bunches sometimes but I guess it is averaging about 1 per month that gets mastered and released and probably a few others that end up falling through the cracks.

Its always been one thing or another. Usually wife kid job in reverse order.
Lately its been staying up until 10am watching ableton tutorials and trying shit in ableton, which comes to the latest:
fucking around w/ another daw.
I just need to get a couple of nights of sleep, get back in the gym and a toon will drop out of my constipated ass.

School, Social live and basicly other things I could do instead.
But I mostly produce my music at night, then I get my inspiration.

Fuck yeah you know what none of that shit should keep you down.
I just got off an 18 hour shift and spent 3 hours working on a tune.
I work 60 sometimes 80 hours a week in a high stress office job.
Yeah we all go through writers block but don't let your life pass you by.
I have barely wrote a tune in 2 years but you know what fuck that shit.
I'm done with keeping myself down.
Use your emotions to drive you rather than halter you. I've said for years I don't have time and now you know what I'm making time I'm doing it backing out a track every couple days.
Don't think about the past in regret, think about the future with awe and wonder.
Think about what you want to accomplish and make tunes become an obsession if it really means that much to you.
If the ideas don't flow today or tomorrow you know what you'll sit down the day after that and things will click. Just give it some time. Make it a habit and then things will start to click no shit!!
