Hello,
I have been looking at monitors for months now and I really need want to make a purchase...
There are a few options:
1. Alesis 1 MK2
2. KRK RP6 or KRK RP8
2. KRK VXT6
The alesis are very reasonably priced, but I have heard from many that they are a little too bassy.
As for the KRK RP6's, i don't know if it is worth spending the cash to get the RP8's....
Then there is option 3.... the KRK VXT6 which are second hand and are being offered at a nice price too....
Any advice would help a lot!!
What would you do?

Rokit 6's are pretty sick, the 8's would be good but only really beneficial if youve got a big enough room, anything average sized i think they'd actually do more harm than good.
Really sick for both monitoring and listening on, i used to be a bit skeptical about the bass response but after hearing them in different rooms I realised that the speakers themselves sound fine its what room theyre in that affects the bass.

I've got a pair of the Alesis, they're ok but do tend to have some technical faults. My friend has had to send his back due to some sort of electrical failure, i've also had to do the same. One of my tweeters also bust and started a horrid buzzing which is yet to be fixed.
I would go for the KRKs, the Alesis are a good price but for a reason.

Okay news flash bedeep bedeep deep deep bedeep. Alesis and Behringer suck. Just generally suck, will break, will have critical flaws that you can't figure out until your 30 days are up.
Just get a quality speaker. I've the krk 5's, wish I had bigger, I got the sub instead, that does me for bass response. The 5's just majorly dropped off in the subs. When I got the sub it completely changed my understanding of my mixes.
Between the vxt's, I've never heard them, but they are the bee's knees from what I've heard. Monitors do tend to wear out though, even the good ones. I can't say that the pair you're looking at is or isn't, you should check them out, listen to them, and turn them up with some really trebbly audio and really listen to problems with the tweeters, any distortion crackling that kinda thing, and same for the bass end.
I don't think you can go wrong with KRK's. Coming from Yamaha NS-10m's.

I woulds stay very clear from the Alesis. They are terrible monitors and do not produce anywhere near a flat response. I do not know the technical term but the Alesis are very bass heavy.
I think it does not really matter that much if you are only producing music in your bedroom anyway. As long as you get the chance to listen on other systems and get to know your speakers very well you can get good results.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Have a look at the Samson Rubicon R8A's, they have an 8" cone that goes down to 40hz so you can hear right down into the lows (though don't expect to necessarily feel them, you'll need a sub for that) and ribbon tweeters that do a really nice job of presenting the highs. For the money I doubt you'll get a better sounding speaker. Really impressed with mine.

Yep. Those speakers are badboy. Everyone is happy with them all over.

fookin srs? they look gangster as fuck
just ordered some 6as... 400US for the speakers / 700AU with shipping from sweetwater.com (who i would definitely recommend from the experience) cheaper than I was gonna get them in aus by a couple hunj
out of the 3 options you've offered though, i would not hesitate to grab the VXTs over the rokits if they're in good nick and the same price

I'd just been looking at the Alesis too, had read a lot of good reviews and was fairly convinced until I read this thread. I found them for a good price but I really don't know how to decide on a pair as I don't know where I can try some out. All of them have a little blurb making them out to be ultra flat and flawless.
I don't want to spend a couple of hundred quid to then upgrade in a couple of years. The alesis really suck that much or are some posters being a bit dramatic? Anyone got experience of the Kef Q1s / Fostex pm-04?

might be redundant... but DON'T GET THE RP8's unless you've got a decent sized room... that's what I rock and i kinda wish i would have gone for the 6's... the 8's are just too much for my little room... altough they do sound great..... and If you've got the option... the VXT series is the higher end of the two... so.... I'd def give them a listen.
my 2 cents.

lacking how?
I use VXT4s with a sub, miles better than anything in the Rokit series, which I've used on an off for years, the stereo image on VXTs are well beyond better

hello all!
well, by the time i realised so many people had replied I had already bought the Alesis!
After reading the posts I feel a little anxious! They are def too bassy but for £239.99 its a great price.... I ended up getting a Focusrite Saffire too, that was reduced to £180.00 from £300.00....
I just hope the monitors don't fuck up, or maybe i should try and sell them asap! hah
