Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
This was a couple years ago probably.
Someone posted a pack of multi-sampled sine-waves in cool-edit.
I lost mine somehow. I know someone will have this kicking around.
Anychance someone can post them up on mediafire?
Those things sound amazing.

They don't sound amazing. It's a sine wave for fucks sake.
Re: Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
Haha true. You know what I mean. They just seem to bump better than the subs I make. Take up less headroom/put out more bass.future one wrote:They don't sound amazing. It's a sine wave for fucks sake.

You can create sine waves in audacity which you can download for free.

Re: Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
That's what I thought too until I threw these sines into Kontakt and pooped myself a little.
These days I'm creating sines with a filter and it works okay (take away all the harmonics and you get a pure sine wave). Only because I lost my sub I made.
But no I can't find a synth that makes a sub that rumbles the way that the sines I had do.
Maybe I'll try Audacity.
Suprised no one has popped in here yet about that thread. It was quite a while ago. Changed my life.

sorry but... this
any synth run osc -> out with osc as sine and octave at -2

What in the fresh fuck. Why don't you just use a synthesizer instead of kontakt. These days I'm creating sines with a filter and it works okay (take away all the harmonics and you get a pure sine wave). Only because I lost my sub I made.

I don't know the math as well as some other heads on here, but from what I understand the sines that are produced by synths are aliased pretty heavily which translates to subwoofers not responding as enthusiastically as they will for a mathematically pure sine wave. Same with taking a single sub and transposing it - there is imperfection and aliasing that is introduced. I can only tell you that I said the same thing all you bastards are saying until I actually took pure sine waves and loaded them into a sampler.
Just open up a frequency analyser. A pure sine should be just a slit. If it takes up anymore frequency than that then there is harmonics.
Again, other people know the math - I just know the experience of watching my Mackie HR824s vibrate my room. I do use synths. All my bass is coming out of synths but nothing moves a sub as perfectly as a mathematically pure sinewave. From what I understand, it's too taxing to create in software so it's always some sort of "Close enough" business out of a synth *shrugs* maybe someone else can enlighten us.

I tell you what, the best sine sub bass i use is a single cycle (up then down
) Of an analogue 808 kick tail. Just grab the end of it, Loop a section makeing sure you dont fuck up the zero crossing.
These subs punch you in the face because it also has added filtered white noise and other analogue treatment. You will also need to tune this in your sampler. Hey presto! Sub bass!!!

Pretty much. They use wavetables or simplified (well... more complex, depending on how you look at itdecklyn wrote: From what I understand, it's too taxing to create in software so it's always some sort of "Close enough" business out of a synth *shrugs* maybe someone else can enlighten us.

Still, the ones from CoolEdit probably aren't any fatter than any other editor or DAWs

its all about the pitch envelopes...
operator in ableton makes NASTY fuggin 808 sounds and sub bass

Re: Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
this is one of the illest threads to pop up.
operator, like hurling said, bust out some serious sub bass. I only realized this very recently.
subfreak also.
I also make a sub that sounds powerful on my home set up, but doesnt really compare to some of the pure subs I hear in other tunes. random examples would be "learn", "hyph mngo", "mood dub"
I feel the power from the sub...I place my hand on the woofer and it's definitely there. but shit aint THAT powerful.
ya learn somethig every day though...

ha ha ha, subfreak, NO.
Not all sines are created equally. What decklyn says is true.
Create a bunch of different "pure" sine waves, set them all to loop infinitely, in either samplers or out of synths. Give them all their own channel, and set them all to the same level. Solo each one. They will sound slightly different. Find the sine that sounds the loudest, while keeping the same peak in your meter. That is your sine sub.

I'll grab them from Sara Simms - I'm pretty sure left them with her a while ago.
Will post once I find/generate them so you can hear what we're going on about.

Re: Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
you're talking the recreated sine wave/808 via infected mushroom tutorial yes? if so easy to do
Re: Those pure sine waves that someone mixed down in cooledit...
Just saying that all synths and sine waves are not created equally. Deck up there thinks that cool edit pro's sines pushed more air, ie had a ballsier bass push than vst generated sines. I don't recall cool edit's wave forms, but I've experienced many different sub sounds and pushes from "pure" sine waves so am very willing to believe that cep could have something going on.
Just to restate the obvious, truly pure is not always better, some sines carry some harmonic baggage that helps them translate on weaker systems without resorting to distortion or exciters or multiband splitting/processing.

Nah Deadly (btw hope things are well bro).
There was another big huge thread on this same subject maybe a year or two ago.
Back when junglists thought dubstep wasn't cool.
Someone packed up a bunch of multisampled sines that were quite long. Fuck it.
I'm going to try to borrow a copy of soundforge here... *getting frustrated*
I'm making alright bass (ie see song in sig) but I've gotta take tunes out to the club in a week and I want to make sure that they properly punch it so my plan is to cut the sub bass out and replace it with something a bit purer.
Re: not having to split bass into frequency/translating better on smaller systems, yeah harmonics=hearing it in higher frequencies. Less harmonics = more bass presence.
That's I think the moral of the thread and how I understand it mathematically.
I'll show you still!! Just wait.

Generated a sub from sound forge and threw it in Kontakt. I just mixed down Godeyes after plunking in the sub. Tune is in my sig.
Maybe the difference is slightly less dynamic than I made out but it's definitely better than shit you can get out of synths in my humble opinion. But yes! There is less harmonic so I need to add another layer in there now. So the bass doesn't sound like a dog barking on a shit system.
