Macbook vs. Macbook pro....help please
Apologies if this has already been asked but a quick search yielded no concrete results. I have finally decided to part with the majority of my diminshing bank balance and shell out on a mac for production. The major question seems to be however, is it worth spending the extra £150 on a macbook pro as opposed to the macbook?? Any help would be much appreciated, i'm hopefully going to be running logic 9 if this makes any difference...
Re: Macbook vs. Macbook pro....help please
Yes, of course. Just look at the specs. You're paying for more power. The question is: Are you going to be moving your macbook around a lot? If it's staying in your studio, save some cash and get an imac. They're cheaper, bigger screen, same power for the most part and you don't have to use a shitty laptop keyboard all of the time. Personally, I couldn't imagine using a macbook(or any other laptop) as my main machine.

Re: Macbook v.s. Macbook pro....help please
If your talking about the 13" mbp do you have an interface? Because it shares the audio in/out. If you planned on using the built in audio you might consider the macbook.
I am also on a macbook and I love it, will not ever get a pc again. I wish I could afford the mbp15".

Note that the regular Macbook doesn't have firewire. You may not need it, but it's something to take into consideration.

Actually it does have one http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html. Apple is releasing new MacBook, iMac and MacMini models very soon, maybe next week...collige wrote:Note that the regular Macbook doesn't have firewire. You may not need it, but it's something to take into consideration.

The white macbook has firewire if it's still available. I've got one. You may want to read the production bible at the top of the forum for info on audio interfaces and what not.

My bad, I was thinking of the aluminum Macbooks (which apparently have been discontinued in favor of the 13 inch Pro.lazermouse wrote:Actually it does have one http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html. After reviewing the models, there's no reason whatsoever you should get a regular Macbook as opposed to a 13" Pro. The MBP is faster, has faster FireWire, and has the best trackpad ever. Seriously, the multitouch trackpad is incredible.

I'm working on a Macbook Pro, and I love it. Can't compare it too much though, no experience.
The desktop vs laptop point is a good one though, if you're gonna be keeping it in one place, you definitely should get an iMac.

If you are looking to save even more money, I highly recommend you get a refurbished one. Google for refurbished apple- not many people think about doing this. Will still have the same warranty, and you won't know the difference.

The trackpad on the Macbook is pretty badass. It does all the 2 finger fancy scroll shit too. Not sure why you wouldn't be using a mouse in the studio though.
