birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
as regards to nights in brum being flops...i think the Breakthru nights are always a success to be honest! but it is mainly a jump up kind of scene, do you not think there could ever be a collab off more than one style of dubstep but in one single night? i mean surely that would please a larger audience...say like benga caspa etc with maybe some youngsta loefah kryptic minds playin after or before...im not sure i dont know necessarily what would be the right mix...however i thought Mediate recently killed it....i mean loefah then jakes following him went down huuuuge! people were loving it!
dubWhat?
Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
Props on starting this thread, i live about 40 minutes away (coventry) so birmingham is my main area to go out in. I've recently noticed that the line ups are getting weaker, and its just becoming who can look like they live in East London the most.if you guys do get this going, be sure to promote it well, i'd like a good regular dubstep night to hit.
Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
Breakthru / Eardrum have been around for years now, have built up the customer base, the funds, the contacts etc but there thing is the more jump up style (when it comes to dubstep), which is fine for them and serves a purpose. Look at the headliners that Eardum has had, caspa, rusko, skream, benga, coki etc. It wouldn't make sense for them to change that as the night is always a sucsess and the punters know what to expect from it.swed-1- wrote:as regards to nights in brum being flops...i think the Breakthru nights are always a success to be honest! but it is mainly a jump up kind of scene, do you not think there could ever be a collab off more than one style of dubstep but in one single night? i mean surely that would please a larger audience...say like benga caspa etc with maybe some youngsta loefah kryptic minds playin after or before...im not sure i dont know necessarily what would be the right mix...however i thought Mediate recently killed it....i mean loefah then jakes following him went down huuuuge! people were loving it!
As regards to a double roomed night of two differant styles or a mix of styles in one room, this is fine but people will turn up for the jump up, that will be packed and the deeper darker stuff will not go down as well and will clear the room, ive seen it happen loads of times now, the last two times loefah has played in brum it was along side the more jump up styles and both times the room has been pretty much empty for loefah, but vibeing for the party music, its backwards in my opinion, but this is how birmingham has been conditioned. Another example is Dubstep Warriors back in May, they got Mala and Youngsta down to play and the room was half full at best, whereas the second room, that had jump up dubstep playing was ramo! People will always revert back to what they know, if this strange (to them) style of dubstep is being played and the usuall hyope party music is going on in the second room 9 times out of 10 the punters will just go over to what they know. The only way to change things is to have a night which concentrates purely on the darker deeper sounds, has tunnel vison for what it wants to acheive and doesnt have to water itself down with the standard jump up thing to bring in the heads. People havnt been properlly exposed to the other side of dubstep and its a massive shame for a city so large and full of potential.
Nottingham, leeds, bristol, manchester, these are all smaller citys than birmingham yet have much better music and variety going on. Birmingham has the potential to be up there with the best, it just needs time effort patience and some tunnel vision.

PS why are you booking Bogore.... that mustn't be cheap and you're 100% going to loose money?[/quote]
Because, like others have said, it's like Marmite...you love it or hate it. I, for one, am a fan of Borgore and I also know him on a personal level. He's a top bloke and it's not going to cost a fortune. It's about pushing things that are different, that's what I enjoy doing. I've brought people like ESKMO and Babylon System to play in Birmingham because I like what they do. If I lose money, fuck it, it's only money. The people that came to see both ESKMO and Babylon System all walked away knowing they had seen something fresh, something different, something wild. I leave the Safer Streets programme to promoters who have only one thing in mind, MONEY.
And judging by the response I've had so far, the Borgore night is gonna have a capacity crowd.
Is your statement purely because you don't like Borgore?

Joker was tooooo big!
As a student, Brum has a lot of coverage. from what you lot are saying, i think they are aiming it too much at students and not the locals too.
Probably scared of the 'beef' that will go down.

Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
i think ur making a very valid point, and my conclusion to that would be only that would be best to get a headliner following the dark and deep sounds of Dubstep, like Mala, Kryptic Minds or something like that and promote it to death! Then on the night itself you will get a real picture on how many birmingham heads are really into the "Darkstep" if its successful on its debut night then bang...as long as you promise to keep the headline acts as the real popular sounds then i think youve got a spot on night...but if it is unsuccessful i think it goes a lot to say that a lot of people from Brum are not into that sound enough if you hear what im saying. But i for one would attend a night with people like Youngsta, SP:MC, Loefah etc playing so is always worth a bash...promotion is key.wooda916 wrote:Breakthru / Eardrum have been around for years now, have built up the customer base, the funds, the contacts etc but there thing is the more jump up style (when it comes to dubstep), which is fine for them and serves a purpose. not playing the usual mainstream la roux remix stuff, it was a nice change.
Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
i'm not going to lie, it is partially because i don't like him, but also because the general review on here is not many people like him and if we can't even get a capacity crowd for a night with Loefah, chef, jakes, and slimzee.... then how do you expect do it with Borgore? oh wait.... you have a venue with 100 capacity... just figure it out.boogiedave wrote: And judging by the response I've had so far, the Borgore night is gonna have a capacity crowd.

I know it takes money, said that in my first post, but if you have the faith to put on a small night then just put on a bigger one with multiple headliners... or am i missing something.
anyway, a bit of respect for doing what you're doing it's just unfortunate about the location... like someone said... just go out in Leeds and you'll see that it's worlds apart from Brum.

Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
Maybe your paying too much attention to moaning threads about jump up, there's a shitload of interest in Borgore on a world wide level atm. Not many people get US/UK tours after 2 or 3 releases.
If all the dubstep heds got together in brum, regardless of the style they are into and program a night to cater for the sound as whole I have a feeling you would all be smiling.

Because putting on a small night wiht one headliner will cost you hundreds, putting on a massive night with multiple headliners will cost you thousands. If its a simple as your making out, why don't you put on a night?steshine wrote: I know it takes money, said that in my first post, but if you have the faith to put on a small night then just put on a bigger one with multiple headliners... or am i missing something.

The community in brum is not the problem and as ive said in a previous post, catering to every sound only makes the deeper and darker stuff get pushed to the sidelines, its been attempted in Brum and has failed. As ive said before, it needs to be exposed on its own as a night focused on one sound, then it can expand into nights where there is a variety because the fanbase will be there. At the moment there is no (or very little) fanbase for the deeper and darker stuff as it hasn't been properlly pushed.

Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
havn't got time to post my thoughts on this just now but for anyone who doesn't know gaslamp killer is at hare and hounds tonight
this is where i find all the events for dubstep in brum. just check it like every week for upcoming nights
http://www.theticketsellers.co.uk/buy_tickets/?genre=39
it doesn't have them all but has most and as someone suggested brum is every wednesday at custard factory, saw joker which was an epic launch and hatcha was there last night. not sure who they have lined up for next week but check it out

Re: birmingham heads... lets get it sorted!
wow another 2 examples right there.....
I agree we should all get together but you know how places are.... very clicky (if that's how you spell it). Tried to get involved and offered my services, not just by DJing but also in promotion and all areas... yet people were not interested in getting more assistance apparently...
I'm currently living in York, probably not the best city for this music yet i've already seen more events advertised, with better line ups than any events in Brum. What's the deal there?

steshine. your far to negative, every post ive seen by you is just unhappy comments about what you hate. Talk about what you like for once, lowe moaning on the internet and everyone get out there. the scene in brum is nothing compared to other cities, but fuck it, theres a lot of things going on. People doing there thing. Leave them at it. Big up joker a few weeks ago smashed it and hatcha w/ crazy d last night.

i think it's fair enough to be disgruntled with the lack of dubstep for a city of brum's size and potential, i certainly am. but you are right with the joker comment. such a good nightdjstandfast wrote:steshine. your far to negative, every post ive seen by you is just unhappy comments about what you hate.
