To my knowledge nearfield monitors are supposed to be on their side. The tweeter and the woofer should be on a horizontal plane with your ears.

That said, I don't know if that applies to the krk's. The one thing about these guys is they are big as fuck, huh!

I don't know, check your warranty, and go for it, if no one says otherwise. These things do get hot... Not much difference in surface area conductivity between the base and side as a ratio of the total surface area...

hmmm i dunno then. I would, as macc says, only do it if the manual says its ok/right to do it. In my Rubicon r6a's manual, it is actually recommended both ways, i just prefer the sound when they are on their sides.

I ran my KRK RP5s on thier side for a while.
Most are designed to be listened to upright though.

After reading on here through I really want to try my HR824s on thier side. Mackie made the logo on the front have a mechanism for rotating it in case you put them on thier sides :)
That way they still look all badass.

I have a ton of 90s and 80s videos to balance them on, does it make much difference having them horizontal?

though that may be down to my shite room acoustics

Im not sure about the vid's mate but big up VHS!!!

anyways., the reason why we have put them on the polystyrene blocks, is to absorb the resonance going into our tables and shit

I don't think it really matters that much. The important thing is to have the tweeters level with your ears. Tweeters are very directional. The woofers not as much . I have mine sitting upright fwiw.

Saw this and thought of you lot;

Note the impact on arrival times/wavefront coherency. This is why it is important.

Indeed, but my head is moving in the vertical axis as well, so six and half or whatever that expression is.

I have actually moved onto using some vintage KEF 103 late 70's studio monitors (handmade in briton, and bought from oxfam for £20!) and placed them upright. Now i have some amazing sounding monitors that sound great vertically. i did have the rubicons on their sids because i felt it helped with the bass. but now looking at that diagram, i can see that i was potentially messing up my mixes. cheeeeeers - Dep
