I've downloaded the presets for es2, where do I stick em?

You don't NEED to stick them anywhere, if you open up the ES2 and go to Load in the dropdown you can find the files.

The better way is to make a new folder in Library<Application Support<Logic<Plugin Settings<ES2 and drop them all into that.

While I usually use the ES2 for leads or pads, I have been able to create some decent midrange tones for use in a sampler.

If its the gnarly FM style oscillation you are after, set oscillator one to 100% FM, turn on oscillator 2, and turn off oscillator 3. Make sure you clear all modulation in the matrix, and remove chorus / distortion / filter to begin with. From here its a matter of pushing the pitch (semitones) of oscillator 2 down or up an octave, or somewhere inbetween (relative to oscillator 1, your FM oscillator). This will introduce the harmonics of oscillator 2, now frequency modulated by oscillator 1. You may want to mix oscillator 1 in 100% (by adjusting the point source in the triangle mixer so its touching oscillator 1). Oscillator 2 need not be mixed in at all to be used by the FM oscillator. From here, experiment with the waveforms of oscillator 2, I recommend using the bottom most waveform (multiple waves), which offers the most complex harmonic sources. for a more rhythmic oscillation, detune (cent) either oscillator 1 or 2 relative to the other. You may also want to take advantage of the FM modulation that can be applied within the Filter, to filter 2 (even more harmonics). At this point, you can further effect your gnarly tone using channel strip plugins, or bounce a sustained tone in a raw state.

This will open the door to many complex oscillations which are prime sources of tones to be later effected in the sampler of your choice. If you haven't figured out where I'm going with this already, I do the filter / LFO / Env modulation on the tone later, within a sampler. The reason I do this, is because its much easier to produce different filter modulation variations of the same tone within a sampler, VS within the ES2. For this, my weapon of choice is Kontakt 3.

I will edit this post to include some examples of horrible patches produced using this technique. Be cautious of the volume, as they will be unfiltered. Let me know if you have any issues, or if these instructions are not coherent.

Patch names include the octave range in which they sound ideal for sampling. Note that these are intended for sources of midrange bass, and have no sub component.

interesting how logic users generally use the built in synths....while many others will use a third party synth.

It's simply because the internal logic stiff has loads of scope and the automation is superb. I've sold my cubase after owning logic for approx 3 months. Yeah there are more vsts etc with cubase but I can live with quality over qty.
Nit that cubase is bad, I just love the logic workflow and es2 has produced some of my best bass sounds

I'm a cubase user but I gave logic a good whirl on my hackintosh.
I dig logic for the quality of the plugins that it gives you but the editing process is too slow for me (or I suck cause I'm used to using windows/cubase).
The stuff I made in logic sounded great though.
IMO logic>cubase if you're looking at quality of what you can do out of box.
The built in steinberg stuff isnt' bad but it's not comparable to the plugs in logic

Hey everyone... Tom from the Waveformless blog here. Awhile back I posted a link to the awesome bank of ES2 sounds put together by Depone and referenced in this thread. Unfortunately, the link has since expired and my computer died before I had the chance to back them up myself. Could someone here re-post them? I'll then upload them to my own host so they'll have a permanent home. I'm getting a lot of readers bugging me to fix the link. Thanks!

Definitely miss Cubase's editing functions since I made the switch mind, for audio it is utter sickness.

I much prefer Logic's 'environment' and plugs though. If Apple get audio editing on par with Cubase in the next iteration of Logic, then it will be all conquering.

Can i just state, I didn't make the ES2 bank, I added some additions (i think i cant remember). But i cant take credit for them. Cant remember ware i originally got them from, but they do sound great, and show the versatility of the ES2 synth. Its vector mode is complex and amazing...

I can put another pack together, just with my own patches... but im a bit cagey sharing them
