Plus people in the thread are defending "moshing" (their words) so people feel inclined to express a contrary view to this (because moshing is some retarded shit).
yeah thats why i used it in quotations...they called it moshing. but it was far from that....which is why someone posted a nice clip of an old hardcore show where moshing was taking place...heres another. enjoy....

courtesy of my friends band, cdc...http://youtube.com/watch?v=iUW1861mMY4

and this one is older...but a fest that was held in my hometown every year...insanity. THIS is moshing. and i never saw this done at dubwar or any other night during dubstep....http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xak2C6oojFY
Nothing like the intimacy and fun of the mosh that came from punk mate...just little boys acting out their mix of testosterone and drugs. I'd prefer the wall-of-death meself cause it's communal sport.

Whilst I dig the earlier sentiments in this thread (go hard if that's what the music compells but be mindful of others), some later posts are indicative of a trend I've seen in Sydney since November 2007: with the commercialization of dubstep we're now seeing the pisshead, agro types arriving to make their mark.

Time to go underground and dance because these people are not, and don't want to be, educated in the communality of dubstep. Avoid the hyped scenes and keep moving (bloody obvious)

Wow, now I'm glad I've never been to dub war, some idiot hitting me in the face "for the love of the music" would make me want to stab them. :|

Took my non-Uncle-Bill brother to Corsica a couple of months ago and he came back saying "At one point I thought this could only get better if people started moshing.... and then people started moshing."

Obviously it depends on the set... major moshing around to someone playing a remix of Archangel is douchery, but what the fuck else are you supposed to do to acts like Excision? The ravemosh is one of the most glorious things in the world... and I'm a skinny fucking 5' 8"... I've been knocked out at Bangface before, it was fucking brilliant up until that point.

I've always thought moshing about with no mind of the people around you, when people are wanting to dance is just ignorant. I like Hardcore/metal stuff and all's fair there; you expect more violence, but I've had mates who've had to go to hospital because of twats at raves kicking/elbowing them when they were just trying to have a dance and enjoy the music...

moshing can be great fun!

AT FUCKING ROCK NIGHTS. dubstep is waaaaaaaay too rhythmical for this kind of dancing. maybe it can be acceptable to certain tunes, when it is a spontaneous crowd-explosion kind of thing, but this isn't what i've been seeing. I've been seeing 5 stupid bastards attempting to mosh to the wrong tune (which is almost all the time imo), gettin' all up in my areas and knockin me hard into people behind me (so i have to apologise to them), right in the middle of when im having a good time.

and you know what? when im havin a good time, i dont wanna be on the edge. forget that. i wanna be in the RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE.

So, I'm not talking to all you posters who appear to have some sort of justification for moshing, I'm talking about the people I just mentioned, when I say: get fucked.

edit: just simply venting I think...but still stands.

Had some fucking insane nights at Bangface, smashing my glasses up, falling over ripping my jeans.... as long as everyone is enjoying it its all good! The thing with bangface is that (95% of the time) if you fallover or drop something, people will step back and pick you up and ask if your ok. Everyone looks out for eachother, and has a laugh :)

is moshing the one where you just push each other around? or is it the one where you punch the air like crazy?

i'm for the first one rather than the second one.
Moshing is generally pushing others around, which isn't too bad :). It's 2-step in hardcore scenes where they punch/kick. God awful at raves.

Hmmm it can be fun to jump up and down like a monkey in the front to some killer tune :)
But for real moshing i'd rather pass. When you are just easy skanking, enjoy the music with a nice spliff i don't want someone to body check me :)

The best thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life involved 3 hits geltab LSD and broken ribs at a Tool concert.

It's dangerous to sit up front and grab the rail and make sure you get a front row seat. If you just want to stand and listen to the music maybe you should stand back by the subwoofer and meditate instead of standing up front where the lights can illuminate you. Maybe everyone who wants to be in the spotlight should all try and fit in the DJ booth with the rest of the beard stroking massive.

Maybe the person didn't know they hit your mate in the face. Maybe if you'd have stopped them and said something it would have changed the situation. What happens at Dubstep parties isn't moshing. When you have a guy with a fucking pink mohawk biting your leg while crowd surfing, who gets hit in the face by another guy swinging his wallet chain around in a giant circle... that is moshing.

The same people bitching about this are the ones who spout off about their rewind culture and how great it is to bring the night to a dead stop. Start the night back up... build more tension. Stop it. Build more tension... what the fuck do you think is going to happen? BOOM.
Forgive me, I'm out of weed.

real talk though, we've never had a "mosh pit" at dub war. we've had a few people moshing. at the most.

its important to add that many of the people most affected by moshing in a dark club are the smaller people. skinny people. imagine you're 70cm/5ft'2 and you weigh 110 pounds, and some 180cm guy that weighs near 180pounds elbows you in the head. what do you think is going to happen? now imagine that 70cm person is your girlfriend. this is how a group of people can fuck up the dance very quickly if they can't recognize when to calm down.

be considerate, and know when to calm down and act according to the space you occupy..... or move away from people that don't want to mosh and find your own area.
