Status update - while simple tasks are simpler in flstudio (BY FAR), I cannot deny that monitoring in cubase sounds better. I'm not talking about rendered results, haven't looked at that yet, but just monitoring in cubase, without a doubt its clearer, the highs are WAY more defined. Didn't expect this.

I'm making this final.
I ain't never going back to fruity. You can't make me do it. I might rewire, or drop the fruity vst in cubase for some step sequencer action, I can see that happening, but I'm not going back in there. NOPE. You can't make me do it.

Well, at the start I didn't have this comp yet, so was just looking for advice re what tricks this beast might have in store for me. Pretty much everyone is right, btw. Media preview is absolutely piss poor. FL and Ableton could beat the lunch money out of Steiny any day of the week. etc etc. Don't get me started.
I'm also not TOTALLY sold on the cube. It is way clunkier than it needs to be. It's like I'm writing a love letter to your grandmother everytime I wanna move up the project page, zoom in, position something and zoom out. But anyways. One thing is for certain though. I am not going back to the fruity. Thanks for all the help peoples, for reals.
And oh yeah, I'm a little slow.

Told ya so
I switched from Reason a few weeks ago, and I don't see myself ever going back (although I need to finish up a few tunes in Reason at some point).
Other than the problem I mentioned, the only issue I really have with Cubase is not being able to undo everything b2b it being really easy to fuck everything up without noticing at first (e.g. I forget to move automations with the midi events). I absolutely love it for the most part though.
Oh except I never realized how fantastic and understandable the routing was in Reason until I tried to wrap my head around bussing without seeing physical wires

Yeah, but the thing with mixers and routing in reason, that shit would get so cluttered. They should have implemented some type of trace function where you could start with a device, and it'd only show cables that carried that signal, where ever it went... but no.
It's funny, in a lot of ways fruity's much maligned mixer is more flexible than any other mixer I've worked with (though can't remember logic's and I wasn't too ambitious with the busses back in the day).
FL's only major downside is sends are locked to be post fader. That sucks. Also LOVING the trim knobs in the cube's mixer. Fl has the same functionality, but its decentralized. I like it right there on the mixer.
Just the audio though, man. It's tight.

Yeah changing the routing can be a pain (I think there actually is a way to see just those wires, not sure though), but if I had to change it I would always just start from the beginning anyway, as it's easier for me to route it exactly how I have it pictured in my head...I'm sure with enough practice, this'll happen with Cubase too, but it's a lot harder for me to get my head around without any visual cues.

Its true though, the extended cubase mixer with all the sends up, kind of crazy. Some kind of commodities trading market screen, or international arrivals for LAX...

always had a hard time navigating that kind of info.

yep got mixer on one, and project page on another. Could use another screen for vst's and plugins. Don't tell the wife though.

Am working up a track in cubase as a kind of tutorial thing. Be happy to post it up. Not dubstep though

Just can't figure out how to record midi into audio. Can export, but is there not some way to record the audio right onto an audio track? Am I really gonna have to use edison in the mixer channel?
Edit, have a q about this, but I didn't know we had our very own cubase q and a thread. Will be moving over there peace future readers.
