Are boomkat giving up on their reviews?

Post by swomp » Fri Oct 16, 2009 4:07 pm

I love the boomkat reviews... They seem to have given up slightly though.

Lol no mention of one of the most overhyped tune of the year - they usually love that shit.

I actually prefer When I Look At You

I think its more of a reflection on the tune itself.

Wobblers usually get short review along the lines of "For all the ravers mandem and fans of Ntype, Caspa et al."

Exactly, they tend to lap it up even if its just to show they hate the tune.

"Bob Marley would be turning in his grave right now. The A-side tackles 'African Herbsman', and the B-side takes on 'Is This Love' for two tranced out dubstep versions of reggae classics." http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=232990

"Rob Sparx obviously isn't in the mood to be making a "deep" tune this week so we get two gnarly rave tools from himself and Maverick. 'Windscreen Sniper' lets rip with a blast of clenched teeth synthlines and mechanical halfstep clank-beats, while 'Replicant' on the flipside performs the same trick with an even edgier lash of midrange synths." http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=232991

And the "Rob Sparx obviously isn't in the mood to be making a "deep" tune this week so we get two gnarly rave tools" in that last review is a blatant reference to Rob Sparx's comment in the brostep thread...

Think about this - I might spend 2-3 weeks writing a deep 12 and get £250-300 for my troubles - thats way below minimum wage so why are you suprised that no-one can be arsed with writing deep? Producers I know who've been writing just bangers for the last few years have got more gigs this month than I've had all year! I mean threads full of compliments are great but they don't pay the fucking rent do they?
Obviously the reviewer at Boomkat reads these threads. Name yourself reviewer... who wrote those reviews?

Haha. Boomkat usually lap everything up, but it is a guilty pleasure when they totally damn something with faint praise. Big up the snooty review crew! Nothing wrong with a bit of honesty, esp as there's SO much generic claptrap being wheeled out

I would presume that they're not going for an estimated average of peoples opinnion/estimated sales and writing it down on the page. Serious.

I appreciate a critic with a viewpoint, even if it is completely opposite to my own. I've always found Boomkat reviews insightful and sometimes entertaining like the one above. Nothing to get too upset about though, if everyone's opinnion hurts/matters it's best to keep the music on your harddrive. Music is not a battle.

I do too but is a place that sells tunes really the place for critical writing? It seems to be working for them tho lol. I think I should start doing this in the promo threads for my labels releases. These tunes are garbage, don't buy them. I only have this label to piss off the anti-brostep crew.

I need to get my label on boomkat just to see what they say
