Dark Knight is Toasty ?

Post by mindwarp » Mon Oct 19, 2009 8:21 am

Guess who is this Dark Knight? His productions sounds so familiar to Toasty. Especially reminds of that style of On Something/You're Special and his early tunes what was giving free at virb.

Just listen to the previews, all track are released since may/june 2009.

The tunes really are more Funky/House alike.

Just who is this guy !

ah oke, if that's true than yeah Kromestar comes a bit near Toasty (production-wise) but without Toasty's deepness and tufness.

Man I really miss him :( !

I don't know but I do enjoy those tunes a lot.

ALSO, I think the "mysterious alias" shit is pretty fucking stupid IMO... obviously it's someone big in the game, otherwise the rampant nepotism and massive amounts of promotion wouldn't have taken place.

Joe Schmoe makes an amazing tune it MIGHT get a release and a decent review from the public. Big name makes an average tune and all the main players big it up and the people down below buy it via word of mouth without bothering to listen in a lot of cases. Sometimes the stuff is good. More often than not, the better stuff you have to dig for yourself and it won't receive any promotion and won't have random big name DJ's name dropping it, or dropping it at all, for that matter.

I've had enough of reading posts from you moaning about this. Literally every profession has this problem to a certain extent, and it's always been bad in music but it's certainly no more prevalent in dubstep than any other genre. If anything dubstep is a more open scene than most. One of the biggest tunes of the year is someone's first release who knew nobody in the scene prior to being signed FFS.

For fucks sake, 3 post of yours have fucked me off....

First When I look at you VIP; cutting Skream down for the Remix and now this thread.

I don't know why I bother but you mate, need some fucking help, all you seem to do is moan....you're a hater!

since you bring it up... let's take a look at the review on Boomkat, SHALL WE?
more has been written about this 12" than practically any other bit of vinyl in the dubstep/post-garage arena this year, with writers at Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Fact Magazine and any other publication of note queuing up to drape compliments over it's shiny chassis. We're not going to hold back on the hyperbolics either, heck no!
Just fuckin saying. I bought that 12" btw. Let me ask you though, if I had released that on my label would it have been written about by all those people, or gotten a review like that? Fuck no it wouldn't. Is it awesome? Yes sure it is. That doesn't mean that being released on a label such as Hotflush doesn't carry a bit more weight when it comes down to it. You don't get that? It's called a hookup, and we have them here in America as well. Surely those relationships you have with the reviewers and the taste makers in the scene plays a part. I'd love to see you claim otherwise. Really?

@AC23, how did I cut Skream down? What are you talking about? Because I said that a record released on Polydor with far wider distribution than any dubstep label currently offers can be expected to sell more than any dubstep label could? Boy, I bet that really affected Skream's psyche! There were 6 tunes on that release, 1 of them was his remix.

Anyway, like I said... full disclosure. I own that Joy Orbison 12(and another Joy Orbison release as well), as well as all the Dark Knight stuff. If I'm a fucking hater, hate my fucking cash back to me then. I'm also an avid vinyl collector and own your(Hotflush the entire thing. and ac's release on formant) entire back cat for the most part. Something to consider. I'm sure we've gotten better reviews because we've known people as well.

personally, i'd say it's more to do with the fact that hotflush is a fucking badbwoy label with immense releases dating back to 2003. knowledge? angel? candyfloss? gamma? road kill/temple ball? one? tell her? mt kimbie? not to mention bear witness/mosaix, dante, hyph mngo ... oh, and harpoon, wormsign, new dawn, frisco, etc. no offence but that reads pretty impressively compared to yours.

And how would you have heard any of those tunes without promotion and nepotism?

When half of those tunes came out, there were not more than 10 Dubstep releases dropping in a month. Food for thoughtr. Anyway... FUCKING DARK KNIGHT EH... IT'S MALA TBH.

well, as it happens, i'm the reviewer for pitchfork who kicked the joy oribison love-in off, and i'm sorry to butt in with "facts" that contradict your agenda, but the interview with joy was instigated *before* the track was signed by Hotflush (shout to Ben UFO for dropping it on his Fabric mix).

You mention "relationships you have with the reviewers" yet i'm no sycophant for Hotflush. I like some of Scuba's stuff, esp the early 12"s, Jamie Vex'd remix and Mount Kimbie, but can personally take or leave large parts of the Hotflush back catalog, even stuff people now canonise like "Knowledge". There's tons of it i've never reviewed: had i felt the same about "hyph mngo" it wouldn't have been covered either. had "hyph mngo" been signed to some random US label or come out on a white-no-label-at-all, i'd have still covered it. sorry if that ruins your conspiracy theory but so be it...
