APC as drum pad? / latency issue

Post by sellhimechoes » Sun Oct 18, 2009 4:54 pm

Just a simple one really..

I've set up a couple clips in Ableton with just glitches and hihats etc and would like to use my apc as a drum pad. I know it's not the preferred method, and i'd probably write the drums rather than use the apc, but i'm still worried about the latency i get. I'm probably getting about a 0.3 seconds latency and i'm unsure if there's a way to correct this.

I've got it hooked up through usb if that helps?

I'm also running it on my Samsung NC20 at the momment (Building a new pc this week coming specific for music production)

ANYWAYS.... any help on this matter would be great.

Cheers.

Don't know about the apc specifically, but I've always found changing the ASIO buffer amount in the soundcard preferences fixed this kind of issue. Sometimes it really is better to use WDM/MME drivers just so you can jam with decent latency.

Well, unless something is very, very wrong the latency is not up to your controller, but rather your audio interface.

Tweak your buffer settings or buy a new interface, the APC is not to blame.

If you have any further problems with the APC, send it to me and I'll test it thoroughly for you.

Isn't this sorted by turning off clip quantisation and maybe switching on legato mode?

yeah it's not an apc thing, it's regarding your settings in ableton-- clip quantization and buffer settings in audio.

yea it is a setting issue but launchpad looks better than apc as a general midi drum pad 8)

Yeah, as i said it wasn't something i was planning on using as a drum pad, it was just for testing purposes really.

I realised the same happened with my keystation as well (first time either has been used) so i checked the buffer settings in Live and they were all set to max. Took them all right down and no latency at all. Shame it KILLS my laptop!

cheers.
