Assuming that most of our mothers are still alive and the fact that Bill isn't a mind reader, I think "should" is probably the best judgement he can make. "Would" implies a logical certainty.

This thread is very silly indeed. Personally, I'm an arch-proof reader and post-editor to try and iron out my mistakes, but everyone makes them and I think that's probably just be me being a bit neurotic about things. As long as you get your point across, I can't really see the problem.

Bad grammar is a lot more annoying than bad spelling because it more often ruins the message of the post.

As an aside, Lynn Truss is a tnuc. I bought "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" in a charity shop on audiobook so that I could chop her voice up and ended up listening to most of it one way or another. It's rubbish.

I'd never seen the internet or used a mobile phone until I was twenty so I've never got out of the habit of writing everything long hand. I understand why people like to write short text messages but if you've got a full size keyboard there's no excuse. Does it really take that much extra time to use capitals and punctuation marks? I don't get it.

for the most part i agree, some abbreviations just don't seem necessary, but some are pretty useful for getting a point across on the internet: tbh, lol etc (case in point there actually - why is etc any more valid an abbreviation just because it's got some history behind it?). i've certainly had to look up a few of the more abstract ones. noone even knew what smh meant when von started saying it on here but it's somehow become part of the ninja dictionary

now back to your pipe and slippers grandad :P

What does smh mean?
