Loud music affecting hearing

for the love of god wear earplugs, there's nothing macho or cool about having a 3khz tone in your ear all the time or even better being totally fecking deaf.
I can't go to a club without earplugs anymore, if i forget them i don't risk it. Rock n roll eh!

Earplugs are a necessity on every gig with a major soundsystem.
they're comfortable and protect your ears well, u can pick some up at your local pharmacy for cheap.
plus imho the quality of the sound is better

For over 30 years I went to tons of loud gigs and clubs (loudest gig - Swans @ the Zap Brighton in 86... they put their own pa system in the tiny arch... my trousers were blowing about I tell you... .they did structural damage to the club that night and my ears rang for 3 days)
anyway ... I never worried a lot about it.... then I quit drinking and started having panic attacks at gigs.... Fuck Buttons and Black Dice last year... the sound was rotten... heavy clipped digital distortion... vicious (both bands wearing earplugs I noticed). I had to get out of there. people were standing right in front of the speakers. I felt sorry for them. I'm gettin on now (nearly 50) and can't stand it too loud. Earplugs are a great idea.

I work in a nightclub mate and a lot of us do wear earplugs to work. It depends how regularly you listen to music at club volume but when I was doing 5 shifts a week (cut it down to 3 now) I was pretty sure my hearing was being effected-I got the tinitus every now again which gradually got lower in pitch and just generally struggled to hear stuff like conversations etc. Anyway if you're goin out more than 2-3 times a week then it would be a good idea to invest in some good quality ear plugs.

they are a bit pricey but they sit perfect and give crystal clear sound.

btw i was never happy with the standard plugs i had before:

they cut alot of the sound and it's not pleasant to wear them. most of the time i took them out because the music wasn't enjoyable any more. then i decided to get the custom ones and never looked back!

Anyone else feel their ears getting fucked up from the many dubstep gigs and nights out?

I now have quite loud tinitus (ear ringing) and i feel my hearing is impaired after all the loud music exposure, Im thinking of getting some plugs, anyone else wear em?

i might sound like a puff but i do value my hearing alot, and i know its not unheard of for big djs to go completely deaf, not that i think thats gonna happen but you get the jist

so, any thoughts? discuss..

BUY SOME EAR PLUGS - You WILL lose your hearing if you don't look after your ears. A lot of the time its the sound system themselves that cause this problem you all talk about and before anybody jumps in and says ''its the bass''... its NOT the bass its everything above 250Hz - 300Hz which causes breakdown. Its worry's me when i can see people putting there face's into hornloaded midtops just as a bit of fun Your talking about 135+ db in yout ears !!!! and you wonder why people have tinnitus .........

Look after your ears mate you only got 1 pair remember.

theres a few venues that have earplugs for sale for like $1.00 or something.. and im seeing them more and more every time im out...

in any case.. buy some earplugs...

Yo fool. I have permanent ringing in my ears from going to shows since I was 15 and DJing. Im only 21. It never goes away. I cant go to bed at night without a fan on in the room. Its hell.

Damage starts to occur about 15 minutes or less into 90db+ exposure... and without breaks your ears cant heal themselves properly.

People... Wear earplugs when youre at a show.

edit: I reccomend using the plastic re-usable plugs. They cut around 20+ db and dont totally kill the frequencies. Theres a pair I get from Rite-Aid for like $4.50 and they last me a good while.

I've had tinnitus in my left ear since 2000 happened standing too close to speakers at a hard house night - I suppose it serves me right for listening to shit music you can only appreciate after 2-3 pills! I've only had earplugs a few months (£180 specsavers musicians -15db) but they are essential kit and I wish I'd been using them years ago, theres some decent cheaper alternative around. I don't wear them all the time as its hard to hear ppl speak or hear monitors properly if they're not very loud but when I'm bombarded with tops and midrange (especially from shit soundsystems with clipping) I stick them in straight away - nothing worse than hearing sound distort in your ears!

I remember when I was 18 going to Metalheadz gig with Loefah and standing with my head in front of a speaker for the best part of an hour - I was virtually deaf for the next day, very stupid indeed!
