dunno if its just caspa...
dunno if its just caspa...
but are so many big name, live sets just a bit dissapointing. i saw dub police on friday in amsterdam, which sounded promising, but caspas set just lacked that bit extra. i mean he mixed where my money and saxon. if i hear that one more time in any club, i think i'll just walk out. his set wasn't bad, he was fuckin entertainin (and had the others, subscape, emalkay, l-wiz, ld and d1 stood behind him in this heavin 3000 capacity conference hall!) but he zipped through tracks so you only heard about 1 minute tops of any track.
when i first started discovering dubstep about three years ago, when i went to a night, i was there to be at one with the music through a massive soundsystem, and the music seemed to be made for that. thats what made me love it.
does anyone else feel that has gone from nights nowadays?

I don't mind people that power mix through tunes, so much as the people that wheel every tune 5 times and don't bother to mix at all. That would be shit. Sorry you had a bad time. Like was said above you should hit up another night if that isn't your style.
Re: dunno if its just caspa...
Commercial sets ftl
Re: dunno if its just caspa...
saw caspa a few months ago at valve and that was killer. but saw him a few weeks before that and was the same story. tunes were ploughed through before you could even get into them.
Re: dunno if its just caspa...
commercial sets?
whenever ive seen caspa hes always playing fresh dubs that nobodys heard. maybe ive misunderstood.
and im sorry to hear you didnt enjoy it. as said above, maybe another night would be better for you.

Re: dunno if its just caspa...
I swear you still have to mix out of the tune after a wheel? Doesn't have anything to do with the mix, except maybe giving you a bit longer (since it starts from the edge). Never understood this argument that wheel-ups are a cop-out of proper mixing.chainsawclownstyle wrote:I don't mind people that power mix through tunes, so much as the people that wheel every tune 5 times and don't bother to mix at all. Having said that, I HATE wheels.
Sorry for going off topic.

...Caspa's set at Why Not? a while back was the same although for me it was a highlight as it was different to the other sets that night. It was the most rammed the room was that night to be fair so not sure if I can slag it off really... I agree about the slamming through tunes but it is a rave and gets the energy flying. I preferred that to N-Types wheelathon which just got a bit much... and the fact certain tunes got played 20 times in a night was also a little bit of a bummer but it was still a wicked party. That quick mix style is good if it at the height of the rave and its all kicking off... all night and it would get annoying. I did really enjoy his set though as it picked up the pace from an amazing Youngsta set of 'proper' mixing, so was a great follow on.
Its all about variety; and peace and love

I saw Caspa and Benga b2b last night...pretty dissapointing tbh, bare wheels and bare shitty chainsaw tunes. watched Skream aswell...his set was also dissapointing...every other time i've seen him he's killed it tho..i dunno if its just my taste thats altered slightly or the sets are going more commercial and "jump up" saw joker tho and he restored my faith tbh...put on a badman set..banger after banger, double drops with tunes n shit.

Thought the vibes during caspa vs benga were sick, skream was absolutely woeful though. Kept playing tunes from the edge with absolutely no mixing at all, just didn't keep the energy flowing. Only consolation is that the needles kept skipping over and over again; although skream did seem mashed up.

Gutted i missed jokers set.

yeah man WHP, i hate that fuckin doctor p sweet shop tune and everyone seems to be droppin it at the moment, just noticed these guys i used to enjoy watching and listening to and nowadays they drop a lot of waste tunes, that fuckin chase and status guitar tune...hate it. You shud of stayed for Jokers set tho man...best set of the night definitely...finished off with some dnb aswell...really fresh set. never fails to impress.rliquid wrote:WHP yeah?semr wrote:I saw Caspa and Benga b2b last night...pretty dissapointing tbh, bare wheels and bare shitty chainsaw tunes. watched Skream aswell...his set was also dissapointing...every other time i've seen him he's killed it tho..i dunno if its just my taste thats altered slightly or the sets are going more commercial and "jump up" saw joker tho and he restored my faith tbh...put on a badman set..banger after banger, double drops with tunes n shit.

Re: dunno if its just caspa...
the set itself and the night were still entertaining. caspa was full of energy, the venue had a 3000 capacity with 2nd and third floor seats like a theater. i sat at the top watching the whole place go mad was still pretty cool. l-iz were fuckin ace aswell. it just seemed his set was more about making people cheer and shit rather than the music. i jus think it should be the other way around.

Caspa was good in Newport (South Wales) at the beginning of this month, Rusko the week after (who was more expensive) was naff

Forever falling in love with old tunes that I will never hear dropped.
Re: dunno if its just caspa...
you asked for it by going dub police and seeing caspa tbh, but still i do agree that many of the big names are really losing integrity, its sad. of course you can go and see someone else but the nights are usually gonna be dominated by a big name and more and more they seem to be playing commercial breeze, and its like what happened?

i played with DFRNT in Notts and his set was fuckin magic. Yet, someone who plays 20 seconds of a track (which you've already heard 2 or 3 times that night because it's a "popular" tune), wheels up, plays it again can charge me twice as much and not get half of my respect. It seems people are goin to nights so that can just get battered and shout about and be a bit lary and make some retarded hand movements when they hear 4 seconds of a tune and want a rewind.
If anyone can reccomend a night where i can just go and stand infront of a speaker stack, close my eyes and lose myself then please fuckin let me know. i haven't had that feeling for a long time.

Re: dunno if its just caspa...
I went to see stenchman and kromestar the other night. kromestar was all good, stenchman was stenchman - wicked tunes, and funny as fuck. Nothin wrong there. I'd like it if people could explain two things for me:
Why do people go more crazy for a rewind than the track itself. surely if a track is THAT good, you'd want to hear the track play rather than rewind it,
and if a track has been playing for less than a second, how do you know whether or not you need a rewind (if at all)?
