Vancouver, got my work visa

Finally received my work permit/visa for Canada. I was worried that it wasn't going to be approved, but turns out it has been

Now i can finally book flights etc and prepare stuff

Going to leave asap....

I was wondering if anyone from Vancouver has any tips for me? or Canadians even?

I'm just going by myself....I know that the Olympics is going to be on, I had a job interview to work as a lifty in whistler, but unfortunately i wasn't successful. So now living in whistler is going to be out of the question because of the Olympics. Alhough from what i understand Vancouver will be holding alot of ceremonies etc, so its going to be v.busy there aswell. I'm thinking I'm going to head to Vancouver and see what happens. I want to snowboard while I'm there.....of course! Anyone got any tips on other resorts, other than whistler? I Still don't know if I should be aiming to live in Vancouver and travel to the closest resort to snowboard when i have a day off work, or weather to try find a job in a resort and not be living in Vancouver. Any i ideas?

And of course, if anyone from the forum wants to meet up, show me some places, have some beers and what not ;0 it, let me know. It would be a great help

I lived in Kerrisdale (posh part of Vancouver) for about two months and then went to Penticton, picked fruit for a bit and dossed around with my then girlfriend. Brilliant country, amazing the scale of it - night life's a bit shit even in Vancouver but you can still have a good time, weed's good too

It's a sick city though, three hours north of me just across the border... I used to go up there for dubstep shows sometimes. If they're still doing All Systems that was a pretty solid monthly, as well as Dubforms.

As for non-dubstep related items, it's still a cool city! Make sure to check out Mr. Pickwicks for fish and chips over on Denman. The zoo and Stanley Park are quite nice too.

I went there for a couple weeks last year. Look for a placed called Fritz. They sell stuff called Poutine, and it's better than life itself.

Which part of Canada, the country is immense. It takes longer to fly across the country than it does the ocean. Amazing flight too, you get to see badboi icebergs, glaciers and shit

I'm going to Vancouver, West coast. you must of skimmed passed it,says it in the post title (not being a smart ass there, just saying) I was just confused as in your first post you seemed to understand that i was going to Vancouver as you were talking about it then you asked where i was going! Just a misunderstanding i think! And yes I have also heard good things about the smoke Shall hopefully make a change from the uk!

Yeah I have been there, I lived in BC for six months when I was 21. Spent the first three months in Kerrisdale, Vancouver and the remainder in Penticton in the Okanogan valley (that stretches all the way to Washington in America) picking grapes. It's an amazing country, Vancouver is pretty much like any major city just more Canadian and with a huge vietnamese population - which is good for food. Personally the best part for me was going out in the rural parts of Canada, seeing brown bears, driving through the Northern Cascades and Rockies.

One of my favourite memories of Canada is Banff Springs Hotel, we drove up there because it was where the Shining was filmed



Seriously the scale of the country is immense.... when we were staying in Penticton we got quite friendly with a few people and discovered that they'd drive 8 hours once a month just to do a "big shop in the city" and they thought nothing of it!!! I said that if you drove for 8 hours in Britain you'd cover the length of the country almost, but there.... it's not even a fraction of it

Wiked pic mate, that place looks immense. My plans to stay in Vancouver aren't set in stone, I'm kind of planning to take it as it comes and see what happens. I was thinking about traveling to Banff to snowboard for the season, I read it was about a 12 hour coach trip from Vancouver..! But yeh, it all depends of accommodation and jobs. I have neither lined up. I might travel to Banff and if i can get hold of a job then hang around there for a while. If not, I can always stay in vancouver and snowboard around there, Bit of last minute planning happening at the moment.!

But yeh, I would definitely like to do what you did and get out of the city for a while, see some scenery, I take lots of photos in my spare time so I'm looking forward to that aspect of the trip

coming from a small island, you don't really appreciate the size of countries like canada until you go there...i remember being on the plane over- after we first hit land after the atlantic, i thought we'd be in montreal in no time, 3 hours later and we're still flying over god knows where, miles away!

check out kelowna at some point. We have a solid mountain (Big White) that is an hour drive from town and is definitely a place you need to check out. Almost all of the staff there aren't Canadian (aussies, kiwis, some brits). I do a club night here every 2nd friday and we have a decent scene although not a "big city" kind of scene. oh and kelowna is about a 3.5 hour drive from vancouver and 45 minutes from penticton (which is smaller than kelowna) pm me if u end up here i'll tell u whats up re: things to do etc

Safe, Yeh i got a job interview for big white, but I didn't manage to make it out there in time..it was in October. Still need to decide if I'm going to try and live in a resort, big white, or even banff or stay in Van. Hmm not sure. And looking on a map now I can see Kelowna, good location with resorts around it,

Yupyup thats the main reason im going there... Whistler opens on the 25th nov i think...
