The Chronic or 2001?
For me it's The Chronic but no one agrees with me I've spoken about it with.

Both classics but i'd go with 2001. It was just so epic sounding for a hip-hop record at that time, super clean use of samples and spot-on replays and the way it flowed from one track to the next was smooth and made sense.

Re: The Chronic or 2001?
both blew hip-hop away when they both came out. I think 2001 stepped up a certain level of production...but The Chronic vs 2001, The Chronic is more sick to me.
Little Ghetto Boy is my fav track of that album.

If i had to pick i'd go with 2001. Memories.
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

They're both classic albums but I was a little too young to be really aware of the impact of The Chronic but I'd say from fuckin 6th grade till high school 2001 was hardest, most gangsta, and grooviest shit that was getting played, and jesus christ was it getting played. Listening to that album brings back so many memories of crip walking with a bunch of kids at dances...
fuuuuuuuck man. 2001 was one of the albums that really got me back into hip hop after a dry spell for a few years. So hard.
But yeah, I guess The chronic had a bigger effect on the music industry and hip hop and yadda yadda but 2001 is where it's at for me. I mean fuck...
Next Episode? Shit was so cash. Forgot About Dre? Blasted everywhere. Bitch ******? One of the smoothest basslines and beats out there with the infamous chorus of "Bitch ******, Bitch ******". Fucking Xplosive has the smoothest guitar line ever. EVER. I could go on and on about all the tracks but diggity damn.

Re: The Chronic or 2001?
got to be the chronic one of my favourite albums of all time.
2001 is amazing though, i just can't see Detox being a patch on either at this point.

2001 is good, Chronic is a classic.

2001 is the only album I have bought that I can listen to from start to finish, not skip one track. legendary status this album, probably the best 'mershy' album I have ever bought.
Re: The Chronic or 2001?
The Chronic feels more authentic, and it has '****** wit a gun' on it, which is possibly one of the best gangsta rap tunes ever.
but, 2001 seems better for some reason, and i was at an age where i could fully appreciate it.

"none of them" should of been a voting option.
All that old school hip hop is shit to me. snoop dogg, 2pac, dre, ice cube. None could "rap" imo. all lyrics are shit and yet people consider them masters of the game.
Fair enough though, if one goes off in a club or something, ill have a dance and, depending on my drunken state, my say the words "tune".

Re: The Chronic or 2001?
Yeah exactly. When I was a kid I enjoyed both, as basic gangsta rap was my main love, but as I grew up and my dad started playing DJ Shadow records to me in my early teen years I started searching for proper hip-hop, and neither of Dre's albums come anywhere near some of the proper shit that was released at the same time but gained much less attention. Shit, Deltron 3030 came out in 2000, much better than both of Dre's and all of Death Row's effortsdjacroama wrote:Thispikeymobile wrote:I never liked either![]()

Re: The Chronic or 2001?
you just have to forget about all that and just enjoy it for what it is, a completely over the top faux gangsta rap epic with really dope beats.
