anyway i agree with the above, why keep pushing things in little boxes, why keep inventing new names/genres, comming with an enitre new scene (this is the media, isnt it?) and then again new subgenres and so on?

although, u must admit, it might be needed sometimes... for instance i dont think Darkstep and Liquid dnb heads get along that wel...

it's reached A high point. not IT'S high point. we can never know bout IT's high point.but both in (commercial) succes and diversity it's at a peak at the moment.

pretty much agree with this. all things fluctuate, have high and low points, no mater if its popularity or maybe "quality". its got many more places to go. as quickly as one style or sound of dubstep gets crowded theres plenty of people trying to take it in another direction, i really dont think dubsteps going to implode or anything, or go the route of a lot of mainstream hip hop/pop/top 40. people shoud stop doubting the possibilities.

hey its about soundwaves, love and well ... dubsep is just a landmark on a map and a sign ... i e.g. mix straight edge mosh, beethoven and even silly stuff and 140bpm plus the technical possibility of todays DAWs (ableton 8 e.g.) just make it easier to perform and express pure energy, power, love whatever .... narrow mindedness is ... boring, theres drum related music in more than 25.000 years, hahaha and since people like dancing every fuckn weekend is a high point, isnt it like that??

It seems like it would be difficult for something as constantly evolving as electronic music to reach a creative high point. As soon as something becomes commercialized or popular, the undercurrents are always moving past and changing into something new.

So I think "dubstep/broken bass wonk/future garage/minimal tech dubsomething" is awesome right now, but I have thought that since I found it. So there's that.

as much as i enjoy genrebending, and i really really do, there will always be genres. if something's good enough, people will like it, then it evolves & becomes a genre. i fell in love with thrash metal in 1988 & never got tired of it to this day.

and by signing up & posting on dubstep forum, its safe to say you personally keep that genre thang alive & kickin..

but biggopp the genre! fair enough, with heavy output there's a lot of crap knocking about, but there are more gems too. if you haven't got the patience to find the good stuff, its your own damn fault. if something's good enough, it'll last. techno is still in its prime... people didn't stop listening to jazz.. etc...

however i do agree that music is awesome right now. and gonna just keep getting better!!

Sure there's more shit music out there than ever as it's insanely easy for any random to pirate fruity loops and make a tune, but there is also more amazing music coming out every day, it's just harder to find digging through all the shit.

That said, I don't think there's any reason to be jaded. Artists influencing other artists influence other artists, etc. Even when a sound get's somewhat stale, someone is sure to pick it up and take it to the next level.

It probably reached a high point in popularity and presence in the electronic scene.

Musically, though, it's still evolving and getting better and better. The problem is that those artists who makes things go further without giving too much importance to the rules probably won't ever be popular in the scene.

Same thing happened with DnB, same thing happens with most genre. Artists who pushed DnB to another whole new level like Richard Devine or Squarepusher won't ever be part of the DnB scene...they are much more than that.
