Dubway forum dubstep compilation !!!
Woop woop
How wicked would that be !
How wicked would that be !
I was on a mailing list once that did this maybe about ten years ago....
It took a long time to do, and a huge amount of effort to organize, but the overall result was worth it. There was some talk about doing it again, but I believe at the time the effort was just too much.
Another list I was on tried the same thing about three or four years ago and, as far as I know, it never got past people posting their tracks on an FTP site.
So its a good idea, but those organizing it have to be behind it 100% and there has to be enough interest from the forum in purchasing it.

techically i think it should be very simple:
- ppl will send their tunes to someone via yousendit, mail, msn or something
- someone (or a few reliable ppl) will download them, make a selection and mix them
- someone will host the mix so that everyone on forum can download it(for free of course!)
but, honestly - i don't think we have enough producers willing to do this, yet

The two lists I was on were concerned with full on commercial release CDs.
That the first group could acheive it ten years ago when most of us were still on dial-up and CD burners were quite expensive was quite amazing. As it turns out, it was a properly pressed CD with professionally done artwork.
The second group should have had an easier time with the lower cost of recordable CDs and drives; essentially I think too many people submitted tracks.
