Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing

Post by Pistonsbeneath » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:24 pm

how much do you think these go together?

i've slipped a bit of late and am hoping to allieviate stress a bit by getting back onto eating wholesome good food...

tonight i am eating a bowl of mussels and a 2 baked potatoes....

with this vid on meditation parson/alien pimp posted i am wondering about that too....is there a right sort of food to be eating if you wished to meditate?

My mate did some 10 day meditation course and the diets they were restricted to were mainly vegetarian, but with an overdose on dairy products. Something about the tryptophans apparently causing an increase in serotonin and creating a sense of well being, calm and euphoria to aid in the meditation. He came back a better person, seeing as he was incredibly cynical about the whole thing before going.

I wouldn't have the faintest idea. I know a few hippies who meditate often, straight up buddhism shit, all seems a bit pretentious to me at times but I'm always surprised at how genuinely happy and peaceful they are because of it. The whole enlightenment thing will probably be rediculously tough to achieve, and maybe even impossible, but after seeing the results of various people's experimentations with meditation it seems like a great way to achieve happiness and feelings of self importance, and you'll end up learning lots about yourself. Bare in mind they all take acid and ayahuasca brews frequently, so that definitely aids them.

They go on meditation courses around mid wales/west england I think, or it might be down near bristol. There's quite alot of workshops available, not sure on pricing but I think it's really cheap. The ones they do often are silent meditation tings, intensive courses. Google some shit up, should be interesting to try out the once.

entheogens are a completely different game than cigs, alcohol, or other drugs.

they are consciousness expanders. even if you don't wanna try em (just yet) it still could be beneficial to be more informed on them. i mean johns hopkins university did a study and found that magic mushrooms have longterm beneficial spiritual effects. they broadcasted the findings on CNN even.

the demonization of these chemicals came from folks who like power and don't like you having it.

the secret to psychedelic compounds is the nature of non-destructive compresson/expansion.
fractality.

If you have an athens account look up Joan Arehart Treichel (I think I spelt it correctly) and her research into diet and anti-social behavior.

Or this:

http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.neubiorev.2007.02.002
Abstract

The role of diet in anti-social behaviour was considered, paying particular attention to double-blind placebo-controlled trials. Meta-analysis of five well-designed studies found that elimination diets reduced hyperactivity-related symptoms, producing a summary standardized mean difference (SSMD) of 0.80 (95% CI 0.41–1.19). The picture was of children potentially responding to a wide range of food items although the pattern was individual to the child. Supplementation with poly-unsaturated fatty acids decreased violence (SSMD −0.61, 95% CI −0.83 to −0.39) although there was no evidence of an influence on hyperactivity. Three well-designed studies have reported that vitamin/mineral supplementation reduced anti-social behaviour. There are also findings of an association between a tendency to develop low blood glucose and aggression. Many responses to diet were idiosyncratic and involved a wide range of foods interacting with individual differences in physiology. Reactions were not observed in all members of groups chosen because they share a common behavioural designation or diagnosis

You need a change of direction man, learn some new skills maybe an evening course or whatever.Something vaguely creative or interesting that in no way relates to your current job[learn a new language or something].Might not get you a new job or whatever but will be pleasurable and life-enriching;can't believe i just used the phrase "life enriching"[slaps oneself for sounding like a new age twat].Or apply for an allotment, fresh organic veggies are so healthy and gardening is such a zen activity anyway.I can be stressed out to the point of wanting to punch things [or people whichever's nearer]then head up to the allotment and be totally chilled within half an hour. When you're up there it's like nothing else in life matters other than the veggies.

Dunno about spiritual well being but I don't eat: meat, fish, bread/wheat, refined sugar or eggs. I very rarely eat dairy...I slip sometimes when there is birthday cake in my office though.

all about vitamins.take multi vitamins (good ones) to ensure your get all the stuff your body needs/doesnt get enough of. (altough this is secondary to a balanced diet) lots of fruit.

as for meditation, dont lock your pre-determined idea of what meditation is inside a box. walking can be useful. anything that you can do/maintain on autopilot whilst still being able to both think and zone out simultaneously. sometimes you dont need your inner dialouge to be completely quiet, you just need it to be more progressive/slower pace. download and listen to some ram dass recordings. will put a smile on your face.
avoid playing depressing/angry music too often. (even if it's dope) i find music effects my mood alot. sometimes more than it should. dont take life too seriously.

dont assume you have to attain anything you dont already have. zoom out :w:

edit spelling mistakes. bit lean :D
