joe rogan is a big proponent of floatation tanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEjTXX2rHgA
John Lily spent a bunch of time in them on drugs and figured out how to communicate telepathically with dolphins. concluded that they are the arbiters of coincidence control.

A friend of a friend did some sensory deprivation stuff. He did some acid b2b laughing gas b2b salvia trip involving it, it's up on erowid somewhere in the acid experiences page. It sounds incredibly amazing.parson wrote:dude piston you need to find/try out a SENSORY DEPRIVATION TANK

How is it sensory deprivation if you're taking hallucinogenic drugs?pikeymobile wrote:A friend of a friend did some sensory deprivation stuff. Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
the drugs are gonna definitely enhance it. the senses being deprived are your physical senses of touch. reduce the number of inputs, and the mind gets to go on overdrive.

Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
You're still depriving those senses, just shit gets muddled up with all the synaesthesia that's blatantly gonna happen and everything's gonna go in to overdrive. Just look what happens when you close your eyes on hallucinogens. You lose the sense of sight and get driven in to a world of colours made of love and shapes made of sound. Imagine if you lose most of your other senses at the same time. I can't even imagine the intensity, losing sight and sound (lying in a dark room) is intense enough on hallucinogens.bandshell wrote:How is it sensory deprivation if you're taking hallucinogenic drugs?pikeymobile wrote:A friend of a friend did some sensory deprivation stuff. Here's the trip for reference. Didn't realise he did nutmeg at the same time.
Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
I dunno, I'd say hallucinogenics cause sensory overload, you become aware of things you aren't normally aware of and can sense other things. I don't think you lose the sense of sight either, you're just seeing something else.pikeymobile wrote:You're still depriving those senses, just shit gets muddled up with all the synaesthesia that's blatantly gonna happen and everything's gonna go in to overdrive. cool, will read this. cheers.pikeymobile wrote:Here's the trip for reference. Didn't realise he did nutmeg at the same time.
Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
sensory deprivation doesn't mean your mind is losing its sense, it means that the input coming from your limbs, etc become virtually non-existent, and your mind is then allowed to go into overdrive.

Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
Aren't the wierd effects from sensory deprivation theoretically your mind trying to fill in the gaps of the sense you're subduing? I remember reading somewhere about ketamine and dissociatives in how they work, how they distort the link from your senses to your brain, so your brain has to try and fill in the missing information? Might've been bollocks, but I remember reading something to that effect.
Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
yeah I read about that in relation to ketamine.pikeymobile wrote:Aren't the wierd effects from sensory deprivation theoretically your mind trying to fill in the gaps of the sense you're subduing? edit: just read the trip account you linked, interesting stuff. thanks for the share.

Missed this thread, so haven't fully caught up.Pistonsbeneath wrote:how much do you think these go together?
i've slipped a bit of late and am hoping to allieviate stress a bit by getting back onto eating wholesome good food...
tonight i am eating a bowl of mussels and a 2 baked potatoes....
with this vid on meditation parson/alien pimp posted i am wondering about that too....is there a right sort of food to be eating if you wished to meditate?
Diet is massively important, I'm sure. I'm not good enough with food... have a very small appetite and always prioritise other things before eating (normally making music/going out).
Last time I was on holiday, my girlfriend and I had the biggest chill out either of us have had for years. Literally didn't do a thing but sit in the sun, eat fresh fish/seafood and drink water/juice... didn't smoke or even touch alcohol for the week. About halfway through the week, I noticed that with only my stomach to concentrate on I actually needed to eat a LOT more than I normally do at home. I also found that if I left it around an hour from needing to eat to actually eating, by the time I came round to eat I was already in a bit of a grumpy mood - and the mood would lift about 5 minutes into eating.
So yeah.... get the diet proper and the brain (or soul, whatever) will at least follow a bit easier than otherwise. I think you're bang on.
No idea about diet with regard to meditation though... I'm not that bad at reaching meditative states, but would definitely be interested in anything that improves the experience in a relatively wholesome way. Gonna go over the rest of this thread for any useful tipbits....

Yep yep!d-T-r wrote:as for meditation, dont lock your pre-determined idea of what meditation is inside a box. walking can be useful. anything that you can do/maintain on autopilot whilst still being able to both think and zone out simultaneously. sometimes you dont need your inner dialouge to be completely quiet, you just need it to be more progressive/slower pace.
dont assume you have to attain anything you dont already have. zoom out
Don't assume meditation has to be in an empty, whitesided room with only the sound of Himalayan Singing Bowls to accompany your breathing... go for long walks on your own, allow yourself to feel human... you've got to understand a map before you can use it as a guide and the same goes for your brain.. give it the attention and you'll learn all sorts about ways in which you can use it. The best thing is that once you have made those pathways, they always seem to be there... once you've got around a certain way of thinking or once you've learnt to "switch off", it's much easier to do it again.
Personally, I'd try without any "supplements" to start off with... spend the time to let your brain do it for yourself. I love hallucinagens occasionally, but meditation should be something your brain is capable of without the need for them. Think of it as a bit of personality maintenance!

we come from a different kinda culture with different kinda needs than those who successfully attained enlightenment without supplements
i also suspect that the supplements have been available to adepts for that very purpose in the majority of major religious institutions that have been operating since before ancient egypt

Re: Diet + Spiritual Wellbeing
the achievable states are only barely comparable.
comparable like dmt and marijuana. they're both clearly psychedelic experiences, but they are just completely different.
terence mckenna's brother addresses the issue in that trailer alien pimp posted about psychedelic drugs.
