Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
Hi there. Im looking for a good yet easy to use VST which would be good for FM sythesis. Im wanting to make those Metallic machine sounds. I currently have a friends old copy of albino 3 but i find it hard to use, and have heard its not the best VST for producing these sounds. Any advice please? also any advice on actually producing this sound within the synth? Thanks

Re: Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
FM8 is my weapon of choice
Re: Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
FM8 is the shit, no questions about it. its a very easy synth to use but there is a lot too it. if you understand synthesis its not hard at all. couple youtube vids and i was on my way.
i dont know if you use ableton, but operator is also dope if you do.

Ahh i see i see, and yes i do actually use ableton, iv not looked into operator i guess. Any ideas on how to make that metallic machine sound? thanks

O god you have a world of wonders ahead of you with operator. That thing is probably the most underated synth I know. Get used to the gui of that thing and read the manual about it gives some good adviceshahbazi wrote:Ahh i see i see, and yes i do actually use ableton, iv not looked into operator i guess. Start here, have fun

Any ideas on how to make the metallic bass in operator?
Re: Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
For other future readers, just like to mention sytrus is an easy to use big sounding fm vsti.
Re: Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
Anybody know how to make a metallic bass within operator?
Re: Good (And Easy) VST for FM Synthesis?
for metallic sounds i dont have a set method, more so i fuck around until it sounds how i want. but i usually start with one osc and make a bass tone thats pretty clean (sine or tri wave) to get the depth i want. then ill layer in another osc (maybe a tri or square wave) and pitch it up a little to give it more of a midrange and ill mess with the level, pitch, coarse and the envelope. the second osc is where the metallic sound comes from. i dont layer up too many oscs normally but if i want to throw another one on there pitched up even higher to give it more of a top end shine to your metal i would. if i want it to wobble i make that bitch wobble. im at work now but when i go home ill fuck with operator and get a nice metallic bass going and post the exact steps i take. this is all from memory right now so i think i can do better for ya. hope that helps.
and ya operator is fucking sick for making bass. i dont use it nearly enough so its def underrated, sometimes i forget how powerful ableton is in the box.

so from people who've used both fl and ableton
which do you prefer, operator or sytrus.
just curious

I may be biased, but sytrus' modulation capabilities are just sick. Env's and lfo's for days. I didn't spend much time with operator, but it did not appear to have the same degree of control and tweakability... let alone the sound
