They just saw an opportunity and sold this story. I doubt they're offended at all.

Fucking bollocks. Only couple, central London pub at 9pm? Sure.
Yes. I think that's case closed really. If they think it makes any difference if the guy was black or white then they're the fucking racists not the waiter.

So it's ok for a white person to call someone a ******? I think it is a poor argument to suggest that the couple are themselves 'racist' - that's just unfair.

I don't think that's what he was getting at. The fact that they see being described as "black" as negative implies that they see more gap between the races than they should - there must be extra meaning than just skin colour being applied by them for "black" to be offensive. It's equivalent to a blonde saying that you called him or her thick by describing them as "blonde".

They're not necessarily racists, but they obviously do read more into race than they should...

There just after money, if not they where to buisy preeching in there youth about the so called white devil to not realise racial tension's are rare to what they used to be. I dont see why there are still racial tension's, i mean it's nearly the year 2010 for fuck's sake, and we are all human afterall.

Thank you, yes. I wasn't saying the couple are racist per se, just they clearly don't understand what being racist is.

I think South Park made the point brilliantly in that episode where they change the town flag. A white, yellow and red man dance around and hang a black man, the children defend it and all the black people say it is racist. Then it turns out the children hadn't even considered the colours of the figures on the flag.

I can see if it was a relatively busy restaurant with more than just the two of them eating, then it would make sense. if there's the black couple upstairs, the asian couple downstairs, the hispanic cat by the window...etc etc. it's useful as fuck. I've done it many times.

In this scenario all that needed to be said was 'the couple upstairs' since it's only them. who can they be confused with? the non-existent white couple?

regardless there isn't any racism with this issue. it's just nonsense that got turned into further nonsense.

is it only couple or only people period in the pub?

Remembers me of that old crazy black woman at the vegetable market I was working for. She paid for something and when the girl I work with gave her back her change, she dropped it gently in her hand withtout touching them. The women started calling her a racist, because she said, my colleague was avoiding touching her hand while giving her back her money...

Or a black woman I worked with. She worked like shit but everyone stopped telling her to work better because everytime, she replied that we were criticizing her only because she was black. We had about 5 other immigrants working with us, and there was no problem with them. Even the boss didn't do anything because she didn't want to argue with her.

I despise racism, but I despise even more stupidity.

it isn't the same as writing "the couple sitting at the black table upstairs"
generally peebs like to be treated as individuals not identified by skin colour
restaurant should issue silly hats to customers
