Re: so where do you guys get your drum sounds from then?
yeah no jokes... heard the veng packs were directly cut from tunes then just compressed to all fuck.
which makes sense. if you load them up into your daw/audio editor they hit at ridiculous volumes.
I find them good for filling out frequencies occasionally, if you need some low end for a snare etc but i think the hats are the most useful. But if you want your own snare or kick sound, stay far away from those sample packs. Everyone is using them now.
I personally like layering a good standard sounding kick/snare with some sort of sample ive obtained. smear your sound across a good frequency base so you get a good punch but also the character of the sound you want. hope that makes sense.

Man, i've got so many drums its rediculous. I seriously doubt i'll ever use them all.
I'm a sample fanatic, Got a fuck load of all records I rip hits and shots from, Alot of late 60's and early 70s soul records. My college is great too, I go on the computers whenever I can and rob anyone's samples I find on the computer.

drums got to bang like guns on a tank.
Re: so where do you guys get your drum sounds from then?
I get them from everywhere. Packs or I cut them from breaks or tunes. Tunes I use anything from vinyl to 128k MP3. I don't worry about the bit rate, just use the old ears. I still think the best way to get new sounds is to go to a local store that has used vinyl on the cheap and pick out about 20 bucks worth and go through and sample shit. If you get your sounds from the internet there is a good chance someone else is using the same shit.
Naked 808 and 909 kits are about the most boring thing in the world for me. I use the sounds occasionally but I hate when it sounds like it just came right out of the machine. It just sounds lifeless. Unless we are talking about old music, I like me some old electro influenced techno and the old rap tapes but it has been done to death. That is fine if you like it, I will pass tho.

You cant beat the organic sound of a chopped up break. Beefed up with 808 or 909 hits if needed equals perfection imo.yellowhighlighter wrote:breaks from vinyl, breaks i've download and samples from classic drum machines.

Don't forget to make sure no pesticides have been used in the growing of the trees!Pistonsbeneath wrote:kryptic minds hit trees with twigs and layer them over real drum sounds
