Have you tried using the faders on the mixer?
Or am i missing something here?

you're all acting like he's an idiot but not one of you have told him how to properly make a clip fade in and out. internet forums tend to have a lot of people with sub-par social skills though, so i suppose it's understandable.

if you're doing it with the faders on your mixer, right click the fader of your instrument and select 'edit automation'. if you look at the sequencing window now, there'll be a new channel called 'channel x level'. now all you need to do his hit record and move the fader, and any movement you make will be recorded on this automation lane. you can then use the pencil tool on the sequencer window to draw it in more accurately. if you do it with the volume knob on the synth or sampler you're using (my preferred way), it's exactly the same only you're right clicking and selecting edit automation on the 'Gain' or 'Volume' knobs.

automation can be applied to almost any element of your synth is endlessly useful in creating more complex sounds and having them change throughout your tune.
