My vinyl purchases can be categorized into the following:

- Track is really old (can't be had on mp3)
- Track is really, really good and I want to buy it twice in two formats to immortalize it in my collection

I don't know if any of you dubsteppers read technology blogs, but a few months ago the very last Polaroid film-producing factory shut its doors forever. It was a logical business move, but people still mourned its passing because of the life memories tied into the product.

Same w/ vinyl decks. I might just buy me a couple M5Gs in March if they really are being phased out. After all, I'll need something on which to play my grandchildren "Sick As Sin"!

I hate to say it but it makes sense that this will happen shortly. Back in the 90's underground edm was selling huge amounts, it has slowly but surely declined and declined so turntable manufacturers are bound to cut production at some point. Economics really, Panasonic don't give a fuck about a market that isn't profitable for them, how many kids do you think will be asking santa for a set of decks this year compared to before the digital revolution really took off.

But they're top of the line. Can't they produce a little less and charge a shitload for it instead? Besides, Panasonic doesn't only have the vinyl market to rely on, so why can't they stay a little diverse? (I should ask them. Pft!)

If it is true it doesn't mean the death of vinyl, there will always be some demand for it but the big corporates like Panasonic are not going to continue producing something that doesn't live upto their sales targets, I don't understand why people are having trouble grasping that.

I'll be buying vinyl till the day artheritis sets in, but that's not the issue that was raised in this thread.

This is true....... but this is down to the sale of Serato control vinyl which has outsold any vinyl record released in the last 20 years!!

I can't remember the figures but the control vinyl makes for something like 15 / 20 percent of annual vinyl sales.

I wont speculate whether the vinyl is dead or not.. but what i will say is that for vinyl lovers, mp3s/wavs dont even sound a fraction as good as vinyls and personally takes all the fun out of mixing for me

I have serato, in order to use serato i need a turntable (technics are the only way) its not that im holding on to the way things 'used to be' i just cant see why you would discontinue such a product. They are awsome better than ANY cd deck available including the cdj2000, it just isnt the same.

my real point is, does this mean the end for other products like serato, traktor etc??? if it does, its a sad day for the way music is goin. I embrace the 'digital era' but had found a product that meant i didnt spend £1000+ or so on a set of cdjs that i dont even like. pitch, platter etc, and works just as well imo.

I am surprised how many people use serato with CDJ's. You can fit 15 tracks on a CD, you could burn your entire set across 6 CD's so I don't get why people use it with CDJ's.
