Edan - Echo Party (Five Day Weekend) Nov 17th 2009
Yo heard this record at a listening party at the Goodlife in Boston last week. Basically the same concept as Gaslamps Finders Keepers release but Edan uses the Traffic Ent back catalogue and adds guitar, synth, kazoo you name it. Definitely a mix that you will play 4 times in a row after you first grab it. He throws in everything from old school hip hop to disco, tape delay, soul funk, you name it. Straight and to the point with flawless transitions and has the trippy touch Edan has a knack to produce with.

i think donovan's one of the few who have heard it. the promo kinda explains it, but also says "and if you put this on the internet, it's probably because you didn't get enough love as a child." so i won't. it's a very funny promo.
it's kinda a breakbeat / edits / beats mix with additional production from edan which he describes as "space echo, multiplex, minimoog" among others. it's really amazing.

Yeah.. ANDDDD Stones Throw is releasing it, white cover, all unique Edan stencil artwork. To bad it will cost an arm and a leg to get a copy shipped. hahaonken wrote:aah foundit, its a vinyl release but its a dj mix? how bizaar :0

Fucking great news! I'm bagging this asap.
And yes indeed it must certainly be time for a follow up to Beauty & The Beat.
Edan is superb.

The cd of this is just out.
The vinyl is sold out at Stones Throw. There was only 1000 pressed and each sleeve has been hand made by Edan. He's a hard little worker is Edan.
There are a few vinyl's of the mixtape still kicking about. I just scored one today. Get in quick if you want one though!!!
EDAN
Echo Party
Hip Hop/Funk/Punk
FIVE DAY WEEKEND
"Following a drought of material in recent years, the nu-skool saviour of the old-skool aka Edan gives up this remarkable mix'n'mash'n'chop'n'dub set 'Echo Party'. For the last two years he's had access to the entire Traffic Ent. Group's back catalog of old skool rap music, including labels like Magic Records, Chocolate Star, P&P among others, and allowed to do his thing, cutting a stupendous meta-mix through dance, punk, rap and punk with an unbridled febrility. Turntables, Guitars, Moog, Tape Echo, and various effects were deployed to enable this trip, crafting a mix that moves beyond the cut 'n' paste efforts of Shadow and Cut Chemist, to something approaching the collage/edit arrangements of Madlib's 'Beat Konducta' series with a "screw-loose" disposition. He's ultimately furthering the original Hip Hop aesthetic of Beat breaking, digging and DJing in his idiosyncratic fashion, taking it to the Nth degree, without cheating (read: without computers!). Even the LP sleeves will be handmade and anaolog, apparently with each one of the 1000 copies stencilled or stamped by Edan, personally! For our 2 cents it's one of the maddest, most inspirational mixes you'll hear this year and deeply deserving of much of your time and attention. Incredible."
