plugging in Korg R3 thru USB. No sound.

Post by faith » Sun Nov 29, 2009 2:49 am

alright, im new to the world of computer music after using hardware for a long time so here is something that im sure is incredibly easy to figure out.
I have a Korg R3 and im trying to record into Cubase AI 4 by plugging it in thru the usb port. I have installed the Korg driver and all the software for it. When i open up the midi instruments in cubase i can play/hear those by hitting keys on my korg, but when i try to play the sounds off the korg into an empty audio track there is no sound and no signal even coming thru.
Also, i installed the editor software that came with the synth and here i am getting no sound what so ever.
is there something im missing here?

thanks a lot for any help guys.

You will need to use an audio cable into your interface for sound (I think)

USB is usually just for midi.

ok, so i have sound now. but. i have no audio interface yet so im plugging straight into the pc input on my tower, there are two of these inputs. one of them has a symbol above it resembling the 0 with a 1 thru the middle (looks sorta like the power or on/off symbol) and the other has a picture of a microphone beside it.

when i plug in the chord to the first one i hear sound thru my computer, whether or not cubase is open, but cubase picks up no signal, there is also no latency issue with this input.

when i plug into the 'mic' input cubase picks up the signal and i hear sound, which is awesome, but there is major latency, like quarter or a second or more maybe.

any ideas?

Thanks again

dont use windows but try asio4all drivers in cubase instead of your normal ones or if you have it already i dunno

yea use asio4all till you get a real interface
the usb is going to be strickly for midi and the editing software to communicate with the unit

im running asio direct sound full duplex driver and as it runs im still getting the latency issue, i turned the buffer size down from 2048 to 512 (as low as it will go) this makes the latency ALMOST barable, but still not too hot, but now the recording goes out of sync after about 30 seconds. will a good audio interface solve this?

if it's a tower get a quality pci or pcie card with solid asio drivers
there is also a bunch of tweaks you can do in windows to optimize for audio which will help with latency
