Alright y'all

Being a dubstep producer/DJ at the ACM in Guildford originally appeared to be a bright idea with the prospect of limitless amounts of other producers, a department dedicated to getting you gigs, and facilities that generally go unmatched against other music dedicated sites. This all became a reality in September upon arrival. Blinded by the light I failed to realise I was jumping into a dark and abysmal hole of existence.. All is well at the ACM but surrounding the building is an unignorable gloom that is a lack of music variety. The high roller nightlife is limited to two clubs that both happen to indulge itself in the objective of making money by ignoring all aspects of fun and variety, this involves the same lack lustre genres of pop cheese music with dj's who should wash out their mouths for having the guts to apply dj to their title.

Reading this you may be wondering what the point is , it may just seem like a rant, which to be fair it is, but there is more. What this post really is trying to acheive is a response. A response that attracts anyone from the Guildford area, whether main postal code or surrounding who either produces, dj's or is just generally fed up with this shite excuse of a night life. This needs to change. If enough of us can apply the rest of our dusk and harpers supressed brain power into one small section of this forum, I'm sure we can make a fucking change.

L5D runs a night here called Boiling Point at the boiler room, but if you know what boiler room is like it's not exactly the ideal venue.
I was going to start up a night at Rubix (Uni of Surrey SU) but that fell through due to their lack of interest in underground music. Kulture goes there and said he'd play. Thanks Surrey.

I'm also at ACM, i'm student rep for production degree. We're applying for an NUS license which should be granted by early 2010, and I'm one of the entertainment officers so therefore will be involved in doing some student nights, we were looking at hiring either dusk or harpers but obviously supplying our own dj's. So something will be happening soon. (I can't see these being ACM exclusive events either, so all other heads in guildford and surrounding areas will have something.

YES! this situation needs rectifying, kanefm and rather splendid are puttin on a couple of nights this month up at the boiler room in december but as u say it isn't the perfect venue. also isn't grief n that doin a night at harpers in jan?
we been chatting to skinzy (u might know him he used to go acm too?) who manages backline and their club is gonna be opening next year and they are also v keen for people to promote.

we've been doin dnb/dubstep nights in the basement room in the university union for a while now and we been gettin bare people in but the problem is that the management there just don't appreciate wat we are tryin to do and really don't like to go out of their way to promote anything other than cheese, kinda same situation as harpers n dusk.

on a seperate note we are the new dubstep producers on Kane, which just been granted a shiny fm license and it would be sick if all these guildford dj's and producers can get involved. if anyone who sees this wants to send us some dubs or mixes or come down n do a live mix then that'd b great. kulture's said he's on board and we gettin some big mixes in, already got this one from rob sparx http://www.mixcloud.com/KaneFM/kfmp-rob-sparx/

Good stuff mate, all sounds very positive!!
Guildford really needs a good dubstep/dnb night. I used to go to surrey uni, but had no idea presha was still going till last weekend which was the last one!
Do you know Max E by the way? I'm sure I was chatting to him about magic mash playing a festie down in Ross, but we couldn't get transport down there.
Please let me know if you get any events planned for dec/jan.
I do a bit of DJing myself, so may well be available for some nights in the new year!...

i had the same problem when i was at ACM a few years ago.... luckily i did the higher diploma in one year and got the fuck out to do the top up year for the degree elsewhere!!

basically my advice is - use the time to perfect your production mate, hybernate on bass weight in your room! and on occasion venture into london for a big night like DMZ and get messy! haha

lol, it's not changed their then! i was gutted when i got to acm and found out what it was really like, the money i spunked moving over from jersey for the privelige as well

like ^ said, just get your head down on tunes, if it helps i know loads of people that since ACM are doing really well for themselves, from dubstep up to workin with dizzie rascal, just try to ignore the acm's hype and spend time getting to know the vocalists

Also be a gd opportunity for any producers/dj's to get to hear their tunes on a rig after they've slaved for hours in their rooms etc amirite?

Yeah i used to go ACM too - no comment. Was alright when they were running the Vestax thing but shouldnt have gone back after that. We played at platform 9 a couple of times when we were living there, i think there is quite a few ppl into dubstep in G-town just not enough people putting big nights on. Its only half an hour on the train to London anyway so might aswell just go to good nights there.
